Richard Busse

December 31, 1969 — September 11, 2022

Richard E. Busse, died September 11, 2022 at the age of 85, at his home in Anderson Township, surrounded by his wife and children. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he remained a lifelong resident.

He was a graduate of McNicholas High School (class of 1955), and served in the U.S. Coast Guard, from 1955 - 1959, as a Machinist's Mate on board a destroyer escort in the North Atlantic Ocean.

On September 10, 1960, he married the love of his life, Judith A. Busse. In 2022, they toasted to their sixty-second-wedding anniversary as Nat King Cole's rendition of "When I Grow Too Old to Dream" played.

His business career spanned over forty-five years. Finding his niche as a salesman, an entrepreneurial spirit drove him to start a manufacturing-representative firm in 1965, which remains successful. He built the business from the ground-up, and led it to become a top-industry performer. He continued as an advisor to the company long after retirement having been proud to pass the company to his eldest son.

Richard was defined by his work ethic, generosity, strong sense of integrity, love of family and country. He was a lifelong student of history, amassing a large library, a self-taught economist, and a military-weapons enthusiast. He revered his wife, was a stalwart champion of his children with frank sincerity and love, and relished his role as Papa to six grandchildren and a great-grandchild. His thoughtful loyalty and cheerful, quick-wittedness was capped by a keen ability to make people laugh as a story teller.

Richard is survived by his wife, Judith Busse (nee Winkle, of Anderson Township, Cincinnati, Ohio; his son Christopher (Barbara) Busse, LTC., USA, Ret., daughter Victoria (Jack) McKee; his grandchildren Ryan Busse, MSgt., USMC, Amanda (David) Busse, Esq., Ian McKee, Megan (Steven) Ashmore, Hannah Busse, Tom Busse; his great-granddaughter Mia Ashmore; nieces, nephews, beloved family and friends. He is preceded in death by his youngest son Joseph (Holly) Busse, Cpl., USA, and his brother Peter (Donna) Busse, FC, Anderson Twp. Fire Dept., Ret.

"Semper Paratus" is our guide...
Aye! We've been "Always Ready"
To do, to fight, or die
Write glory to the shield we wear
In letters to the sky.
To sink the foe or save the maimed,
Our Mission and our pride.
We'll carry on 'til Kingdom Come,
Ideals for which we've died.

Fair winds and following seas.
