Barbara Louis Breneman

February 18, 1926 — September 24, 2024

Barbara Louise Bowers Breneman passed from this life on September 24, 2024. She was 98 years old.

Barbara was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa and attended Drake University in Des Moines and the University of Colorado in Boulder. She married Warren Breneman on September 8, 1946 and they were happily married until Warren's death in 2009.

Barbara was a woman of many talents and generous with her love and time. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for "that smile". She sewed and knit clothes for her family, made homemade pizzas and doughnuts, grew her own vegetables, helped Warren build the house their children grew up in, attended and volunteered for PTA, Blue Birds, Girls Scouts, and Cub Scouts. She loved reading mysteries and doing counted cross-stitch and crossword puzzles. Barbara made beautiful quilts, often not pleased with her hand made stitches (which looked so perfect they were easy to mistake for machine stitches). But whenever she was less that pleased with her results, she would say, "It'll never be seen on a flying horse." She and (not so much) Warren were avid bridge players. She loved big band music and her favorite song was "Stardust".

Barbara and Warren were founding members of Covenant Presbyterian Church in West Des Moines, Iowa. They opened their home and hearts to American Field Service (AFS) students and were active in the organization.

In 1978 Barbara and Warren moved to Colorado Springs, CO with Warren's job and quickly developed life-long friendships there.

Barbara described herself as having "itchy feet" and she "scratched" them by traveling all over the world with Warren, visiting and making friends easily wherever they went.

She is survived by 4 children: Nancy Taber (and spouse, Doug), Mark Breneman (and spouse Gayle), John Breneman (and spouse, Deb), Matt Breneman (and spouse, Jill), 10 grandchildren: Jim Constant, Nathan Constant, Jerry Breneman, J.R. Breneman, Chris Breneman, Kevin Breneman, Ali Breneman, Nathan Breneman, Josh Hall, and Ariel Guzman, 11 great-grandchildren: Joe Constant, Mike Constant, Nicole Constant, Izabella Konzem, James Constant, Audrey Guzman, Avilyn Guzman, Ace Guzman, Autumn Guzman, Rosalie Hall, and Liliana Hall, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
