Barbara Byrd passed away peacefully on August 13, 2023, at the age of 101. She was born Barbara Jean Tracey on March 20, 1922, in Monmouth Illinois; but after the age of five, she was raised in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
Barbara attended Ohio University and was affiliated with Chi Omega Sorority. It was there she met her lifelong love, Max Byrd. They wed in 1943 during the war years and were married for 67 years. They made their home in Upper Arlington, Ohio where they raised their two daughters. Barbara devoted her life to her family and to her volunteer work. She was active in a number of civic groups, including League of Women Voters and Girl Scouts. She volunteered at Riverside Methodist Hospital for 26 years and was an active member at Riverside United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She was a charter member of Sewing Guild #48 and sewed for Riverside Methodist Hospital for 45 years. She was an excellent seamstress and quilter; and she loved knitting little sweaters, hats and mittens for her many grand- and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Dean Tracey and Bessie Bear Tracey, by her sister, Louise Kartsher, by her son-in-law Patrick Good, and by her husband, Max.
She will be sorely missed by her family who dearly loved her spunk, her humor, and the way she held her whole family in the circle of her love. With gratitude for a life well-lived, she is survived by her two daughters, Patty Good and Donna (Bob) Burns; grandchildren, Jonathan (Katherine), Tracey (Matt), Ryan (Michelle) and Kevin (Katie); and nine great-grandchildren, Hannah, Caleb, Joshua, Emery, Patrick, Eisley, Clara, Noelle, and Charlie Max.
