Barbara Elizabeth Schimming, 78, died March 5, 2024 after a 7-year illness under the care of Salem Woods and Hospice of Cincinnati.
She was born in Fremont Ohio to Lydia (Zerman) and Edwin Streeter on June 21 1945. Barbara graduated from Clyde High School in 1963 and from Bowling Green State University in 1970 with a degree in mathematics. While at Bowling Green she met her future husband, Craig Schimming. They were married August 19, 1967 and resided in Clyde where Craig was teaching math.
After Barb earned her math degree, she taught high school math for several years at Clyde High School. Her teaching was interrupted while she was raising her children. In 1981, Barb had switched her career track to programming computers. She did computer work for Owens Corning, Ford, and the government at Wright Patterson Air Force base among various other companies.
While doing her computer work, she was immersed in doing craft works. She sewed, crocheted many varieties of blankets, sewed quilts and created many woven baskets. She loved gardening and grew lots of veggies to be donated for several food pantries.
Barb is survived by her husband of 56 years, Craig of Cincinnati, and 3 children, David (Rae) Schimming of Genoa, Ohio; Bret (Christa) Schimming of Walton, Ky; and Angela (Tom) Ogonek of Cincinnati, Oh.
She is also survived by grandchildren Makenzie, Hunter, and Kennedy Schimming and by Meredith, Sophia, and Theodore Ogonek. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Eloise Brown all of Clyde, Ohio.
The family would like to express our gratitude to all the care-givers at Salem Woods, Arden Court and Hospice of Cincinnati for taking care of Barb in her times of need. Also, a thanks to T.P. White for handling the funeral arrangements.
Services will be on April 13 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in West Chester. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM with services at 11 AM followed by a luncheon served at the church.
