Bishop LeRoy Buller was born into this world on June 8,1934 in Kinder, Louisiana to the late Joseph and Lillian Buller. Affectionately wearing many titles in his life such as husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, papaw, mentor, pastor, preacher, friend- he found the role of servant leader his highest calling. He made his transition of triumph to his heavenly reward on September 23, 2021 at the age of 87 years in Cincinnati, Ohio.
After accepting the call of God, LeRoy attended and graduated from Apostolic Bible Institute in 1956 and began his evangelistic ministry. He began preaching before he even left for ABI. He married Evelyn V. Johnson on July 23,1956. LeRoy and Evelyn evangelized nationwide before settling in together to faithfully pastor one church assembly for 34 years. Later in his retirement, he became Bishop of Tree of Life Church, and used his seasoned ministry to help multiple churches with his calm, steady, confident leadership during their own times of transition. Beyond serving his local assembly, he also served the United Pentecostal Church International Ohio District in multiple capacities. Of those opportunities to lead and serve at the state level, he directed youth camp choirs, was a member of the district board, was the Minister of Comfort, mentored young ministers, and offered hospitality to camp meeting guests.
LeRoy was known by those he served to “love God and people” as commissioned for God’s children to do. His daily walk with God, disciplined study and knowledge of the Word, and kindness to everyone he encountered found him successful in drawing many to the Lord. He had an unmatched ability to acknowledge every person as an individual, meet them where they were, and make them feel seen, valued, and loved through authentic connection. He ministered to many people through his own love for interests with gadgets, boats, RVs (he even rebuilt a GMC), roller skating, and ice skating. His friendship had no age boundaries by finding connection with a same-aged peer or youth group member or young child without hesitation. His empathetic ear, discernment as a good listener, and ability to extend mercy and compassion helped him gain the trust and confidence of those he ministered to. Most notably, an individual was guaranteed to be made better in some way after a conversation with Bishop Buller.
He was the beloved husband of 65 years to Evelyn V. Buller (nee Johnson), the devoted father of Kim (John) Wilson, the cherished grandfather of Bethany (Stephen) Malloy and Nate (Lindsey) Wilson, the loving great-grandfather of Eva Lynn Malloy and Isaiah Malloy, and the caring brother of Lori (Jim) Bruce and the late Lola (John) Comeaux and Lawrence (Barbara) Buller. He was also preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Lillian Buller.
