Bonnie Jane Few, 94, of New Richmond, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16th, 2024. Bonnie was born to parents Francis and Ines Carnes on July 17th, 1930, in New Richmond. As an only child, Bonnie had a love of horses and excelled as a student; in fact, she was salutatorian at New Richmond High School, the same place where she met the love of her life, Samuel Few. Bonnie and Sam married on March 22nd, 1952 and later welcomed two sons, first Harry and then Sam K. After briefly living in Tampa, FL, they returned to New Richmond in 1954, laying down roots right next door to Bonnie's parents.
If Bonnie had a love language, it would undoubtedly be Acts of Service. She was a devoted homemaker and a warm and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Bonnie was a force in the kitchen and at the playing card table, known for her baking and love of all card games, particularly Euchre with her husband and grandkids. She also enjoyed knitting and was diligent about completing her daily crossword puzzles. Additionally, Bonnie was an avid Cincinnati sports fan. She loved talking about the Reds and Bengals, watched every televised game, and would often fall asleep with a transistor radio against her ear listening to sports radio.
What Bonnie will be remembered for most, however, was her stabilizing, authentic, and loving presence. She was a reliable constant in the lives of those she loved and always put others before herself. She worked hard to maintain a sharp mind and resilient body to prioritize listening, providing, and caring for her family. She never said goodbye without a hug or hung up the phone without reminding you that you were loved. Her devotion as a wife was second to none, and she could often be seen holding hands with her husband of nearly 72 years and was a wonderful caregiver for him in the last years of his life.
Although we all marveled at Bonnie's remarkable memory at the age of 94, we mostly marveled at having the privilege of calling her "Mom" or "Nan." We will hold dearly the memory of everything she represented for us. We will hear her voice, smell her French toast, and most importantly, feel her unconditional love.
Bonnie is survived by her son, Sam K.; her grandchildren, Brett, Lauren, and Joshua; and her two great-grandchildren, William and Samuel. Bonnie was predeceased by her parents Francis and Ines Carnes; her husband Sam; and her son, Harry F.
