Carol Ann Kelly (nee Donohue) passed away on April 19, 2022, in Montgomery, Ohio at the age of 74.
Carol was born November 5, 1947, in Brooklyn, NY, of her late parents John Joseph and Olga Mary (Stripeikis) Donohue. She is survived by her adoring husband of 54 years, James M. Kelly; her children and their families, Jim and Amye (White) Kelly and Adrienne and Ava of Mason, OH; Erin Kelly and John Park and Ronan and Beatrix of Burbank, CA; Mike and Jamie (Highman) Kelly and Evan and Makayla of Indianapolis, IN; and by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law and close friends, John and Sheila (Kelly) Stempeck of Reading, MA. She also is survived by her sister, Joanne Meehan, Ft. Myers, FL; her brothers, John Donohue of Arvada, CO and William Donohue of Port Reading, NJ, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her sister, Barbara Donohue of Barnstable, MA, also predeceased her.
Carol’s love and passion in life was children, both in her own family and also in her long career volunteering and working for non-profits. She taught Sunday school, became a nurse with a special gift for serving children and worked with several non-profit organizations serving those in need. Carol loved every aspect of working with children, and she excelled at nurturing, teaching and playing with kids in every setting.
She had the great adventure of traveling to all seven continents. Carol loved snorkeling on coral reefs throughout the world or simply spending time at a beach or lake with her family.
Carol’s role as Mimi to her six grandchildren was her favorite job title ever. She listened to all the rules that her children insisted be followed and then ignored them as soon as the parents were gone. Mimi was happy to engage in hours of imaginative play, was the best card game player or pretend restaurant patron or hide-and-seeker ever, and was not afraid of opening the glitter. Her grandkids were the happy center of her life.
Carol was joyful and sunny, a person who left friends and strangers feeling happy and welcome. This is how she will be remembered by her family and many friends.
Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Anderson Twp., on Fri. April 29, at 10 AM. Friends may visit at the Church on Fri. from 8:30-10 AM.
