Col. Paul B. Goodwin

Colonel Paul B. Goodwin, USMC (ret) born June 9, 1938, in Portsmouth, VA, died Thur. Oct. 27, 2022, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Paul B. Goodwin passed away unexpectedly from medical complications, he was 84 years old. Paul led a full and noteworthy life despite departing this world too soon.

He was born and raised in Portsmouth, VA the son of Claude and Carrie Goodwin. Proud of his southern roots, Goodwin attended college at East Carolina University. At ECU he played on the golf team and was a founding member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, graduating in 1961.

Paul was a patriot in its most consummate definition, Paul was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. in December 1962. His 25 plus year career in the Marine Corps. was highlighted by multiple high level staff assignments and noteworthy command positions. He served two combat tours in Vietnam, in 1965 as a 1st Lieutenant assigned to Recon and in 1969 as a Captain and Infantry Company Commander with Kilo Co. 3/3. His combat achievements garnered him multiple awards which included a Silver Star (combat V), two Bronze stars (combat V), the Legion of Merit, Navy Commendation Medal (combat V), Meritorious Service Medal, and Navy Achievement Award. He was described by many as a true professional who had high expectations and did whatever it took to get the job done while preserving the lives of those under his command. Paul retired from the Marine Corps. officially in l989 as a Colonel in command of the Marine Security Forces Battalion, responsible for the safety and security of all US Embassies around the world.

After the Marine Corps. Paul spent almost two decades as the Executive Director for the law firm Dinsmore & Shohl based in Cincinnati, Ohio, retiring in 2007. He spent his retired years playing golf, traveling with his wife of 31 years, Debbie, and spoiling multiple generations of their favorite Weimaraners. He is survived by his loving wife, Debbie, daughter Katie, son Jacob, granddaughters Olivia and Elizabeth, and his puppy Mac.

Paul had an unmatched magnetism and an indominable spirit. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing him will cherish the time he gave them. He will truly be missed by the countless individuals that carry the indelible mark he left behind. Colonel Paul Beale Goodwin will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA at a later date. An Open House Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 20th, from 2:00-5:00 at Scott Robertson's home 8020 Blome Road Cincinnati, Ohio 45243.
