David Hertzig

David Lee Hertzig, aged 62. Passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

He was born on October 3rd, 1962 to (The late) Richard Lee Hertzig and Joy L Hertzig-Harter in Cincinnati, Ohio. David grew up in Newton and Mt. Washington in Cincinnati. He was a gifted singer, actor, director, musician, cook, baker, legal assistant, writer, genius and voracious reader.

David is survived by his Mother, Joy L Hertzig Harter (nee Huls), his sisters, Bethany D Hertzig and Laura S Phillips (nee Hertzig) (Tom), his beloved nephews Tommy and Billy Phillips, and many cousins.

David lived a full life before Younger Onset Alzheimer's Disease took over. He was beloved by his family and friends. David was the smartest and most talented of our little family and he was fun too!

He excelled during his time at Performing Arts in acting, singing, playing oboe and all academics, especially math. He had a blast learning and acting at Miami University (Oxford, OH) in the Western Program and he got his Masters of Arts degree at the College Conservatory of Music at University of Cincinnati in Directing. David was a member of several Renaissance Faires over the years, jousting, fencing, acting and making friends.

He lived in Virginia and DC, working at Compass Publishing. He moved to Chicago and worked as a legal assistant at the prestigious law firm, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meager & Flom LLP, travelled the world and sang with a few choirs.

David was very proud that he walked in many Pride Parades and completed an AIDS ride. He came back home to Cincinnati to help take care of our father, Richard, when dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

David was very happy when he was able to do something he never thought he would be able to do... Marry someone he loved. While the marriage didn't last, he was happy for a time.

Even when Alzheimer's was taking over his brain, he was full of laughter and song. He sang with a wonderful chorus around Cincinnati (Fluidity) until he could no longer memorize the music and sang in the choirs at Mt. Washington Presbyterian & Crestview Presbyterian churches . He continued to keep us laughing and singing until he couldn't anymore. He was well loved at Artis memory care where you would often hear his laughter throughout the facility and when he could no longer walk they took wonderful care of him at Serene Suites memory care.

David will be missed by us all and we were very fortunate that he loved us all so well.

A visitation celebrating David will be held on Thursday, January 23 from 11AM-1PM, at T. P. White & Sons Funeral Home, 2050 Beechmont Ave., Mt. Washington.
