David Luppert

February 8, 1939 — September 26, 2023

David "Dave" R. Luppert age 84 of Anderson Township, a dedicated family man, accomplished professional, and ardent sports enthusiast, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2023. He leaves behind a legacy marked by his unwavering commitment to his loved ones and his remarkable career journey.

Dave was born February 8,1939 in Williamsport, PA. He attended Williamsport High School where he excelled in varsity football, track, wrestling and baseball. He was a member of the High School choir and joined with four of his best friends to form “The Five Sharps”, a vocal group that entertained throughout the Williamsport area.

After graduating High School, Dave's journey began in 1957 when he embarked on his academic pursuits at the University of Cincinnati's College of Business, participating in a five-year co-op program. During his time at the university, he thrived as an active member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, ultimately serving as its President during his senior years in 1961-1962. His dedication to his fraternity was evident in his previous years of involvement as well.

Dave’s passion for baseball led him to play as a second baseman for the Cincinnati Bearcats, culminating in an outstanding achievement as an All Missouri Valley Second Baseman during his senior year. In June 1962, Dave proudly graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business.

Upon graduation, Dave began his professional career as an auditor for Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Kittanning, Pennsylvania. Two years later, he returned to Cincinnati, where he joined Peat, Marwick and Mitchell Accounting Firm. During his tenure, he successfully passed the CPA exam and worked as an auditor on the Billboard Publications, Inc. account. His outstanding work at BPI led to his appointment as Vice-President in 1967, where he managed the Cincinnati office with dedication, combining his love for finance and music into a fulfilling career.

In 1977, Dave moved his family to Chicago to serve as Vice President of Vance Publishing Company. However, his heart remained in Cincinnati, prompting him to return to the city in pursuit of his true priorities – family and his beloved sports teams, the Cincinnati Reds and Bearcats. While serving as Vice President of Vance Publishing Company, Dave embarked on a different type of business venture, becoming one of the principal owners of Beechmont Racquet & Fitness where he played a huge role in expanding from a primarily tennis club, into a full service gym. He maintained this role at the club, while continuing his primary career as a CPA, through the 1990’s.

In 1979, he became Vice President of F&W Publishing Company, where he continued to excel in his career until his retirement in 2000. After a brief hiatus, he was called back to leadership as President of The National Underwriter Company, a position he held until his final retirement in 2004.

During his retirement years, Dave embraced a fulfilling life. He served as President of the Board of Chateau La Mer II in Destin, Florida, a place initially chosen by his best friend and brother-in-law, Charles Edward Sandusky, to be the location of the annual family reunion for 25 years, celebrating the importance of family bonds. He enjoyed golf, monthly luncheons with his ATO brothers including lifelong friends Dick Delon and Jim Gentile, hosting lively pool parties and volleyball competitions, and attending church faithfully. Above all, he cherished supporting his grandchildren in their various pursuits, from sports events to dance recitals, sharing in their joys and accomplishments.

Dave's love for his family knew no bounds, encompassing relatives by blood, marriage, and choice. His dedication to all those he held dear was a testament to his character.

He leaves behind his wife, Carole J. Luppert (nee Sandusky), daughter, Karen Luppert- Fessler, son Barry (Sandi) Luppert, grandchildren, Casey and Kirby Schneider, Jenna Fessler, Alexis (Josh) Hines, and Shelby Luppert, great grandchildren, Holden Schneider and Zoey & Camden Hines. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 siblings.

Funeral service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 5433 Madison Rd., on Saturday, September 30th at 12 pm. Friends may visit at the church on Saturday from 10 am to 12 pm. A private family interment will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. If desired, memorials may be directed to the church.
