Dave was born January 23, 1949, in Cincinnati to James H. and Rita (Daum) Stanley. His father also was a Cincinnati Police Officer. Dave graduated from Roger Bacon High School. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from U.C. and a Master of Education degree from Xavier University. He also graduated from the Police Executive Leadership College.
He is a U.S. Army Veteran and served as a medic at a medical field hospital in Wurzburg, Germany. When he returned, he worked at Hoxworth Blood Center as a phlebotomist before joining the Cincinnati Police Department on October 29,1972 as a Patrol Officer. He worked in the Technical Services Bureau and Planning, Research and Development. He commanded the Police Academy, Community Services Section, and Police Communications Section. He retired after 25 years of service at the rank of Captain on July 26,1997, with 36 letters of appreciation and/or commendations. He then taught law enforcement at Aiken High School in their Career Paths Program. He also worked for the FOP Labor Council and helped to represent his fellow police officers to resolve workplace issues.
Above all, Dave was a faithful, Roman Catholic. He showed God's love through his actions daily. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, sibling and a friend to all he encountered. He was a true testament to his Catholic faith.
Dave was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. He died at 12:15 a.m. on August 29, 2024, at the age of 75.
David Stanley is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda C. (Buken) Stanley, his son Jeff (Stacie Stark), his daughter Sara Uhl (Jess) and his 10 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held September 9, 2024, from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. He will be buried at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
