DR. WILLIAM C. WESTER, II
PSYCHOLOGIST - PROFESSOR - FORENSIC HYPNOSIS EXPERT
Dr. William C. (Bill) Wester, II of Cincinnati passed away on August 23, 2021. He was 81 years old.
He was born on September 9, 1939 in Muskegon, Michigan and later attended Central Catholic High School in Toledo Ohio. He was the only child of his deceased parents, William C. Wester and Mada Rabideau Wester. He was fortunate to have a loving step-mother, the late Bertha Eckel. In 1964 he married Elizabeth (Betty) Wilton. His wife Betty preceded him in death in 2000. Dr. Wester remarried in 2002. His wife Sally (Dumford) Wester also lost a spouse. She has two children and five grandchildren.
In 1961, he received his undergraduate degree in psychology from Xavier University and his doctoral degree in counseling psychology from the University of Cincinnati in 1965. He began his clinical private practice along with teaching at Our Lady of Cincinnati College (later named Edgecliff College). He became Chairperson of the Psychology Department and later Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean. He also taught at Xavier University, the University of Cincinnati, Wright State University School of Professional Psychology and earned the rank of Professor Emeritus at The Athenaeum of Ohio.
Dr. Wester was in clinical practice for forty-five years before retiring in 2006. He was very active professionally being twice President of the Cincinnati Psychological Association, a Board Member of the Cincinnati Academy of Professional Psychology, President of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, President of the State of Ohio Board of Psychology, and President of the American Board of Family Psychology. Dr. Wester had over forty publications including several major books in the field of hypnosis and received numerous professional awards. Dr. Wester taught at the FBI Academy (Federal Forensic Hypnosis Institute) for several years and worked as a Forensic Hypnosis Consultant for the FBI, ATF, and various local and State law enforcement agencies. Spanning over thirty years, he helped law enforcement in over 150 cases.
He also enjoyed many other hobbies including traveling and going on cruises, model trains, fishing, hunting and building things like bird houses and fairy gardens. And he had a love of magic. He performed as "Dr. Magic" at adult and children's parties, on cruise ships, at resorts, and charity benefits, and at an annual Cancer Survivor's Boat Trip in Cincinnati.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Dumford Wester of over 18 years; his children, William (Barbara) Wester III of Naperville IL and their sons Stephen and Thomas, Lori Wester of Chicago IL and K. Scott Wester (Nicole) Wester of Baton Rouge LA and their daughters Grace and Lily. Other survivors include his four step-brothers and step-sisters: Robert and Daniel Lewandowski, Phyllis Etzel and Joanne Smith.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Guardian Angels Church on Monday, August 30th at 10:30 am. Friends may visit at the church on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 am. The Mass will be livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTUdfN1wuJM
