Fred was born in Cincinnati's East End to parents, Ruth and Lesle Burck. He attended McKinley Elementary School and Central High School. Upon graduating, Fred enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in Guam and Japan during the Korean War. After leaving the military, Fred settled back in Cincinnati where he met Betty whom he married. Together, Fred and Betty built an amazing family of four children, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Fred went to work for Cincinnati Bell where he worked tirelessly as a splicer for 33 years to support his growing family. After hard days at work on the telephone poles or under the streets working on the lines, in all kinds of weather, Fred would often be called out in the middle of the night for emergency repairs. At his workplace, he quickly became known as Steady Freddy for being always reliable when called upon.

Fred began attending Mt. Washington Baptist Church, which his father helped build, over 70 years ago. Serving as Usher for more than sixty years, Fred was known for his dapper suits and famous pleasant greetings to all who entered the church each Sunday. Fred was equally as well known for his endless corny jokes. Fred was a die-hard Reds fan, listening every night on the radio and watching the game on TV with the radio playing and the TV sound turned down on nights that the game was broadcast. Fred loved Marty and Joe. Fred was also well known amongst his family as being a man of routine and structure. He prided himself on having a place for everything and proper routine for every daily activity.

Fred was best known, however, for his unconditional dedication to his family and friends. Fred was the embodiment of the phrase "he would give you the shirt off his back". He was a devout Christian, dedicated family member and friend, and a member in good standing of "Americas greatest generation".

Fred Burck was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. We were so lucky to have had him in our lives!
