WW II Veteran
Frederick A. Betz, beloved husband of 69 years to Barbara A. Betz (nee Miller). Born in Alton, Illinois on June 22, 1926, Fred (Ted) was the son of Frederick J. and Stella Betz. Preceded in death by his son, James Edward Betz, and six siblings. Survived by his children and their spouses: Mary (Dick), John (Lori), Lorraine Wingate Betz, Louise (Joe) and Jane (George), and 9 grandchildren. Fred served in the United States Navy during WWII as a signalman in the South Pacific, where he survived a typhoon that sank the ship he was assigned to. After the war ended, he graduated with a BS in Commerce from St. Louis University. Fred was hired by Procter and Gamble, where he worked for his entire career of 39+ years. He was manager of the Western Accounting Office in Chicago before he was transferred to Cincinnati. Fred ended his career as the Manager of Personnel Administration and Field Sales Offices. In the 28 years of his retirement he enjoyed dining out with his dear wife, Barb, spending time with family and friends, traveling, playing golf and sitting in the warm sunshine during 20 winters in Sarasota, and spoiling his grandchildren. A resident at Twin Lakes in Montgomery, where he made many friends in the three and a half years he lived there; previously a resident of Anderson Township. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary church for 47 years where he served as an usher at mass. A member of All Saints Church and the Knights of Columbus. Freds word was his bond, he never spoke an unkind word about anyone, and he was always willing to see the best in people.
