George Reichard

April 25, 1943 — March 3, 2024

A husband of 58 years, father of three sons, grandfather of eight, and second-generation steward of a 98-year-old family business, George Leslie Reichard, 80, of Anderson Township, left this world on March 3, 2024. He left an indelible impact on people along the way.

Born April 25th, 1943, in Milton Pennsylvania, Les was adopted within the Reichard family to E. Paul Reichard and Ruth Reichard as an infant. He came to Cincinnati and resided in Clifton on Rawson Woods Circle where he started friendships - one specifically continuing to his death. Through some family transition he entered Howe Military Academy in Indiana and soon became commander of his unit earning him a marching sword in lieu of the standard rifle. The shift to high school caused a reset in that rank and a disgruntled Les returned to Cincinnati where he enrolled in and graduated from Woodward High School. While at Howe, Les met his future stepbrother Fred and subsequently his future stepmother Barbara.

Settling back down in Cincinnati, his father built a family home on Kentucky View Drive. Home to the family, his cherished Studebaker Silver Hawk, and many Irish Setters.

Les met his lifelong partner and spouse, Susanne Schmitz not long after. Together, they married, lived in Hyde Park, and started a family. While working for his father's construction company, Holt & Reichard, Inc. during the day, Les completed his Industrial Management degree from the University of Cincinnati at night.

Moving to Mt. Washington and then Anderson in 1976, Sue and Les raised their three sons, David, Steven, and Jeffrey.

Eventually, Les became an owner of Holt & Reichard and worked beside his father running the commercial construction business. Les' legacy to the family business, among many, are the characteristics of quality and absolute integrity. If Les made a promise, you knew it would happen and it would happen to the best of his abilities. He had the respect of employees, subcontractors, and clients. Through a golden handshake, he was a steward of the relationship-based construction philosophy that continues to drive the company today. He fostered and maintained client relationships that remain to this day, one specifically since 1934. Perhaps his biggest accomplishment was mentoring the third generation to run the business. Something only 10% of businesses succeed at doing.
Les cherished his time with Sue, especially in their later years, enjoying time in Florida and other travels. Les, a self-proclaimed introvert, was often forced to be social by his extroverted wife. They gained many amazing friendships through community and church that stand to this day.

Beyond his wife, family, and friends, Les enjoyed cars. Starting with his previously mentioned Studebaker, Les owned various Mustangs and Corvettes which he loved tinkering with at the company shop. Other interests included home remodel projects. Something always needed improvement, so rarely did the family live in a fully finished home. A trait he passed along to all three of his sons.
Often described as "the nicest person you could meet" Les leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Susanne Reichard, his sons David (Angel), Steven (Elizabeth) and Jeffrey (Megan). His grandchildren Kaitlyn, Justin, Emily, Anna, Benjamin, Rachel, Evalyn, and Audrey along with many loved and cherished friendships. Predeceased loved ones include E. Paul & Barbara Reichard, Ruth Reichard, Fred Johnstone, Laroy & Evaline Schmitz.

Friends may call on March 15th from 4:00 to 6:00 at New City Presbyterian Church, 4400 Floral Ave, Norwood, Ohio 45212. Private family cemetery service on Saturday officiated by longtime family friend, Rev. W. Brian Ferry. T.P White & Sons is handling arrangements for the family. www.tpwhite.com
