Glenn J. Engelkamp, age 88, passed away peacefully, January 17, 2025 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Born on February 28 1936, to Charlton and Isabel (nee Richardson) Engelkamp. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary C. (nee Rehorst), and his children: Beth (Rick) Schimpf, John, Kevin (Melinda), Michael (Julie), and Margie (Brett) Massie. Glenn is also survived by his 14 adoring grandchildren: John, Michael (Lauren), Emily (Timothy), Mitchell, Tommy, Katie, Sarah, Matthew, Jackie, TJ, Daniel, Brittany, Hannah, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Glenn was proud to be a lieutenant in the Cincinnati Fire Department for 32 years. He could not wait to go to work every day. His first hour on the job after fire school he rescued someone off the roof of a burning home. Glenn loved life, whistling throughout the day, listening to Joe and Marty while working on cars. He was loved and befriended by everyone. Glenn brought joy to anyone who knew him. He always had a smile on his face and was a consummate story and joke teller.
Glenn's claim to fame was singing in a falsetto voice Ethel Merman's song "I Got That Old Feeling", being introduced by Ronnie Dale as "the voice they're begging to record". He and his friends also would play the trumpet fanfare at the Reds games at Crosley Field, starting "charge" with Ronnie Dale being the first organist in MLB to play the fanfare. He will be so missed by his family and lifelong friends. (Bob, Harry, Aaron, WInkie, and Dave)
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 24 at 11AM at T.P. White & Sons Funeral Home, 2050 Beechmont Ave., Mt. Washington. Friends may visit the funeral home from 10-11AM.
