Howard Merle Johnson, Sr., 85, of Cincinnati, Ohio, died January 31, 2022, at Cincinnati VA Hospital. Howard was born May 18, 1936, in Harlan, KY to the late Lee and Mary (Cox) Johnson.
Howard graduated from Loyall High School in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1963 and was stationed in Hawaii. He worked in the automobile industry as a parts manager for several Chrysler dealerships over the years.
Howard took pride in raising his four children in Anderson Township for over 40 years. He enjoyed coaching his sons baseball teams, teaching his kids to golf and sharing his family history. He loved UK basketball, PGA golf and the Cincinnati Bengals. He was a lifelong coin collector and shared many pieces with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed cooking, especially his famous chicken and dumplings, spaghetti sauce and green beans. He loved sharing a good meal or watching a game with family most of all. He was also proud to become a great-grandfather for the first time last November.
Howard is survived by children: Patti (John) Doubet, Jeff Johnson, Lori (Greg) Stammen; grandchildren: Kevin, Nick, Molly, Andrew, Cara, Emma, Abby, Joshua, Makena and great-grandson Caleb; siblings: Gerald, Ronald and Mary Ruth (John) Lambert; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by brother Wallace, sister Ava Lee and son Howard Johnson, Jr. His final resting place will be at Shoemaker-Johnson Cemetery in Harlan, KY.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life luncheon on Saturday, March 5, 2022, from 2-5pm at the American Legion Anderson Post 318 (The Patriot Center) located at 6660 Clough Pike, Cincinnati, Ohio 45244. Donations may be made in Howards memory to the Cincinnati VA Hospital.
