James Ochsenhirt

September 25, 1943 — March 15, 2023

James "Jim" Samuel Ochsenhirt, LTC USA Retired, of Anderson Township in Cincinnati, OH passed away on Wed., Mar. 15, 2023 at the age of 79 with family close by.

Jim was the beloved husband of Sharon Ochsenhirt (nee Stark); devoted father Scott (Jennifer) Ochsenhirt, Sarah (Nick) Iredale, and Stephanie Ochsenhirt; proud grandfather of Ben, Anna, Aelwen and Leighton; and loving brother of William A. Ochsenhirt II (deceased) and Arlene (John) Ranelli.

Jim was born Sept. 25, 1943 in Youngstown, OH to William A. Ochsenhirt and Gladys Ochsenhirt (nee Smith) (both deceased). Jim graduated high school in Boardman, OH and earned his Business & Finance degree from Ohio University where he met his future wife, Sharon - whom, for the next half century, he referred to as his "Beautiful Bride" following their marriage on Apr. 27,1968. Jim served in the US Army in an active and reserve capacity for over 20 years.

His service to his country mirrored his service to his faith, family, and community. An active member of the Mt Washington Presbyterian Church, Jim occupied many leadership roles within the congregation. As a Stephen Minister, he served the spiritual needs of others for 12 years at Mercy Hospital Anderson, where he received the Volunteer of the Year Award. Because of his commitment to God's Word, Jim humbly accepted such awards and told no one.

Throughout his life, Jim's words and actions demonstrated his devotion to family. He offered advice and counsel as a wise father who challenged his children (and now grandchildren) to be of strong character, of limitless faith, and of service to others. He facilitated the bonds of family across generations and leaves his children with close relationships amongst themselves and extended family and friends.

He accomplished all this while wielding a wonderful sense of humor. From stories that resulted in laughter to jokes that resulted in groans, Jim always had a witty comment to accompany his beautiful insights. His determination to appreciate life and to serve God allowed him to persevere when others might have stumbled. Like Jim, may our hearts be true and grateful to the Lord.

Psalm 57:7 "My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises!"
