James Updike

James Paul Depaul Updike passed away on April 2, 2024, at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Ann Updike; his son James (Sarah), daughter Kathy, daughter Tracy (Kevin), and daughter Terri (Dave); six grandchildren, Zoe, Parry, Isabella, Athena, Killian, and Kaylee; and his brother Jack (Cheryl).

James was passionate about sports. When he wasn't watching his favorite local teams, he played softball, ran, and helped coach his kids' sports teams. He later turned his passion into umpiring during his retirement years. He spent his last days happily watching March Madness and celebrating the Reds' Opening day.

We will honor and remember James with a graveside funeral service on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 1 PM at Pierce Township Cemetery (950 Locus Corner Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45245). This will be followed by a celebration of his life, a time to share memories and stories, from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Big Ash Brewery (5230 Beechmont Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45230).

In lieu of flowers, we invite friends and family to donate to the May We Help organization https://maywehelp.org/ . This organization has helped support James' grandson, Killian, and allows individuals with disabilities to achieve greater independence.
