Jane Forbes

May 17, 1927 — November 1, 2016

Forbes, Jane Sallee (nee Caldwell) was born on May 17, 1927, and went home to Jesus on November 1, 2016. At 89 years, she had lived a full life as a wife to the late Duncan (Pat) Patterson Forbes Jr. Daughter of the late Frederic and Lelia Caldwell. Beloved mother to Duncan Forbes, Alan Forbes, Abigail (Steve) Carpenter and Ted (Roseann) Forbes. Loving Grandmother to David (Melissa) Carpenter, Kate Carpenter, Teddy, Erin and Holly Forbes. Great Grandmother to Tyler Carpenter. Born in Evanston IL, Jane went to New Trier High School in Winnetka IL. She spent one year at Coe College in Cedar Rapids IA, then her ambitions in the area of art took her to New York City and Chicago. After meeting Pat on a blind date, and dating others too, they both broke other dates to become engaged! They were married in December of 1951 at First Presbyterian Church of Evanston IL. Jane lived in IL, MI, PA, CT, WI, FL and OH, and loved to embrace nature, climate, the arts of everywhere she lived, sharing that passion with others. While in MI she gave tours of the famed Cranbrook Art Museum, and loved to paint with watercolors drawing fun characters on letters, ceramics. Naturally demonstrative, Jane was a hugger and encourager who, when her children were living on their own, would enjoy talking on the phone with their friends almost as much as her kids! She learned a lot that way, too! Jane always said hug and love each other every chance you get! She had a very loving relationship with her husband Duncan which was a great example to her children. Through the years stories of her encounters with pets were family lore. Helping a drowning dog from a swimming pool in the middle of the night, or yanking a dangling cat from a second story open window were just a few. Jane and Duncan also had two German Shepherds, Baron and Brix, and a Lab mix named Husky. They often escaped and tried to steal the neighbors geese on several occasions. Mom chasing them down in the family station wagon in the middle of the night is a fond childhood memory. Loving others and loving God were hallmarks of her life with healthy slices of laughter, honesty and zest for wherever she found herself. Her Pontiac convertible, scarf whipping in the breeze, are cruising in heaven! We love you and well miss you greatly. Memorial Service at Crossroads Chapel 3500 Madison Rd., 45209 on Wed. Nov. 16, at 3 PM. Friends may visit at the Chapel on Wed. from 2:30-3 PM.
