Jaye Yorio (nee Marioni) died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family, including her beloved dog Riggy, on November 23, 2023. She was born on Thanksgiving Day in 1937 and left us on Thanksgiving Day, 2023.
Jaye often said she enjoyed a “wonderful life.” A true Cincinnati girl, Jaye grew up in Mt Washington and attended Guardian Angels School. She was a part of the first co-ed graduating class at Archbishop McNicholas High School, and went on to graduate from the University of Cincinnati, where she majored in art. At UC, she met her husband, Pete Yorio. They were married in 1959 and had five wonderful children.
Jaye was a loving, supportive mother, taught nursery school, and spent forty-years working and volunteering at the Taft Museum of Art. Jaye also gave her time at Hospice of Cincinnati sitting with patients.
Her loves were her large Italian family and her many friends. She was a consummate organizer of family parties, vacations, lunches, and trips with high school girlfriends. Early on, her house was the place for all of her kids’ friends to hang out and sometimes, party. Later, her house was a second home for her grandkids. She was the host of annual Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve celebrations for the extended family. She enjoyed entertaining, cooking, decorating, traveling, gardening, playing bridge, coffee, and a glass of Chardonnay.
Jaye was a friend to all and a shining example of grace and kindness. She was faithful, strong, thoughtful, classy, and easy to be with. She had a positive outlook, a good sense of humor and a gift for listening. Making those around her feel loved and special, people often sought Jaye’s gentle advice.
Jaye spent the last few months of her life the same way she lived it: companioned by her love ~ Pete, her kids, grandkids, family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Pete, and her five children, Matt (Kathy), Mike (Sara), Lou (Kathy), Karen (Mike) Veeneman and Tony (Nikki). She was adored by her fifteen grandchildren: Carly (Kain), Meurer, AJ (Carolyn), Aly, Dominic (Kelci), Daley, Nick, Kendall, Laney (Jade) Freel, Dylan, Sam, Anna, Hank, Sophia, Julia and Gina. Jaye also had two great grandchildren, Lyla and Luca, and two on the way, Trey and Sloane. She was also a second mother to nieces Beth Derringer Keith and Amy Derringer Chandler.
