Jeanette was born February 26, 1918 in Cleveland, OH and passed peacefully on December 28, 2024 at the age of 106, surrounded with love from her family.
Jeanette was the beloved wife of the late Edward L. Katz, devoted mother of Susan (Roger) Krantz, Gary (Leslie Mihalov) Katz and Lori (Gary) Miller, cherished grandmother of Andrew (Jen) Katz, Mallory Katz and Morgan Katz, Michael (Sarah) Krantz, Matthew (Cindy) Krantz and Katie (Doug) Johnson, Jason Miller and Kristen Miller and proud great grandmother of Micah and Levi Krantz, Logan and Emery Krantz, Benjamin and Lucas Johnson, Theo and Oliver Katz. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and caring friends.
Jeanette Haas Katz was the daughter of the late Etta M. Corkins Haas and Meyer R. Haas, and sister of the late Herbert, Harper and Marjorie. She was raised as a faithful member of the Christian Science Church. She was a graduate of John Adams High School in Cleveland, and Ohio University, majoring in English and Physical Education. While attending college, she was a playground director for the City of Cleveland and taught swimming and exercise at the YWCA. Upon graduation, Jeanette taught English and Physical Education at Addison Jr. High, where she met her future husband, Edward Katz, who was the band and orchestra director. Music filled her heart! They enjoyed dancing at Euclid Beach Park, then indulging in grilled cheese sandwiches and ice cream sodas!
Jeanette and Edward were married on August 29, 1953, and enjoyed 52 years together before Edward’s passing in 2006. They raised their three wonderful children, Susan, Gary and Lori, in Euclid, on the shores of Lake Erie. They were blessed with sons-in-law, Roger and Gary, daughter-in-law, Leslie, eight loving grandchildren and eight adorable great grandchildren. They eventually moved to Cincinnati in 1995, but Cleveland would always be “home!” Vacations at the beach in Vermilion, Ohio, where Jeanette had spent summers as a child, became an annual family favorite.
Throughout her life, Jeanette was involved with many volunteer activities, including the Cleveland Garden Club and Meals on Wheels. She was a devoted member of Anderson Hills United Methodist Church in Cincinnati, where she found strength, comfort, and purpose in her faith. Volunteer activities at church included UMW, Quilting, Crafts, the Rummage Sale, and the Jingle Bell Fair where she enjoyed being Mrs. Claus at Christmas time.
Jeanette also had a love for baking (making all the family birthday cakes and dozens of Christmas cookies!), sewing (making many of her children’s clothes), embroidering, crocheting (blankets for all the little ones), swimming (until the age of 102), gardening, family pets, hot tea, and all things CHOCOLATE! (especially Hershey Kisses!)
Jeanette’s positive outlook was remarkable, and contributed to her strength and longevity. She was truly an inspiration to her family and her spirit will live on in the memories of so many who loved her. She will be deeply missed, but always remembered, as she leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, family and faith.
A celebration of Jeanette’s life will be held at Anderson Hills Church. Visitation will be on Sat., January 18 at 9:00 AM followed by a Service of Celebration at 10:00 AM at Anderson Hills Church 7515 Forest Rd. Cincinnati, OH 45255. Arrangements by T.P. White Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to All Dogs Come from Heaven, 1894 Ohio Pike, Amelia, OH 45102, or MSPCA-Angell, 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130, or a non-profit, volunteer, animal rescue of your choice.
Our family sincerely thanks you for all the cards, flowers, condolences and support you have provided. Your expressions of sympathy bring us much comfort as we realize how Jeanette has touched so many hearts.
