John Perry

November 23, 1933 — February 20, 2015

Perry, John R. 81 years, of Montgomery, Ohio died February 20, 2015 at Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash following a brief illness. John is survived by three children; daughters Linda (Jeff) Smith and Jennifer (Mike) Timpe, son Doug (Kim) Perry, and five grandchildren; Kaitlyn (Joshua) Stephens, Patrick Smith, Kelli (aka McGillicuddy) Smith, Hank Perry and Luke Perry. He was preceded in death by two wives; Patricia in 1983 and Phyllis in 2005. John was raised in Kansas, the only son of E. B. and Sallie Perry. He attended two years of Kansas City Community College and joined the Army in 1953, rising to the rank of E-5 in 21 months. He returned to school on the GI Bill and earned a BS in Marketing in 1957 from the University of Missouri Kansas City, where he was a founding member of the school's Delta Chi fraternity chapter. Mr. Perry was employed by Procter & Gamble from 1957 to 1989 in sales and sales training. He was a resident of Anderson Township for nearly 40 years and was an active member of his church, served as a leader in several levels of Boy Scouts and participated in many community initiatives, including school district bond levies and the United Way campaign. Following his retirement from P&G, John volunteered for the Cincinnati Bicentennial Commission, several Tall Stacks events, and the International Visitors Council of Greater Cincinnati \"Business for Russia\" program. John moved to Montgomery in 2005, was an active member in his retirement community, a graduate of the Montgomery Citizens' Leadership Academy, a member of Montgomery's first Community Emergency Response Team and helped Boy Scouts propose and execute their Eagle Scout projects at Ohio Valley Voices, which serves children with hearing loss. Rain or shine, he could often be found cheering on the sidelines of his grandson's sporting events and loved helping them with their pinewood derby cars in the woodworking shop at Twin Lakes. He was an enthusiastic member of the Par Hoper's group at Reeve's Golf Course and was the group's Net Score Champion for 2014. Two memorial services are planned for Saturday, March 14, 2015 with a reception to follow each service. The first, open to anyone, but primarily intended for retirement community members, will be held at 10am at the Twin Lakes Senior Living Community in Montgomery. The second service will be held at 3pm at the Anderson Hills United Methodist Church in Anderson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in memoriam be made to: Ohio Valley Voices, 6642 Branch-Hill Guinea Pike, Loveland, OH 45140 or to the Dan Beard Council, 10078 Reading Road, Evendale, OH 45241.
