Katherine E. Doran

August 20, 1939 — April 8, 2023

Katherine E. Doran (nee Wilk) entered her heavenly home on April 8, 2023 at the age of 83. She was born on August 20, 1939 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She received her primary education at Guardian Angels School (GA) then went on to attend and graduate from Archbishop McNicholas High School, both in Mt. Washington. She went on to attend St. Xavier's Commercial School for Girls, officially known as “the Convent School”, for her post-secondary education.

Kay was preceded in death by the Love of Her Life John R. Doran, Sr. her devoted parents Philip and Ethel Wilk (Knoll), her dearly loved sisters Julia A. Brown (Wilk), Mary Jean Mann (Wilk), brother in law Jay Mann, and nephews Steven Williams and Jeff Mann.

Kay is lovingly remembered by her five children Amy J. Doran, Julie A. Doran-Darst, John R. Doran, Jr., (Melanie), David M. Doran, Eric J. Doran, sister in law Karen L. Doran, brother in laws William M. Brown and Patrick J. Doran

She was the most-devoted grandmother of Austin J. Buettner, Brooke A. Doran, Shennan N. Darst, Ashley L. Doran, and Tyler J. Doran. Loving aunt of Kim Williams, Keith Williams, (Cindy), Jenny Mann, Diana Doran, Debbie Doran, Tim Doran, Tom Doran, Evan and Christopher Doran. Great Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews who delighted her to no end.

A well-respected business owner, Kay was the President of Doran Transfer & Rigging in Northside, a family owned and operated company which she assumed leadership of in 2002 upon the passing of her husband John R. Doran, Sr. The challenge of running a multi-faceted construction business invigorated Kay and she truly enjoyed working up until her final days, often first in the door at the hour of 6 am.

Above all, Kay was fiercely devoted to her children and grand-children. She always made time for us no matter the circumstances and would drop everything on her calendar in a heartbeat should an emergency arise.

Kay treasured her grandchildren, she shared with them her love of books (the hard-bound, paper kind) and taught them that reading was a priceless gift. She delighted in planning trips to the Zoo to see the Elephants, Krohn Conservatory for Butterfly Shows, Mad Hatter Tea Parties at the Cincinnati Art Museum and countless Art and Nature camps.

She was a dynamic individual who constantly astounded her friends and family with her never ending drive and abundance of energy. She was Fire on the Pilates mat, an avid gardener, long standing member of the Green Grubbers Garden Club of Anderson Township and a constant source of inspiration to everyone around her.

Kay’s friends and family are devastated over her loss, but take solace in knowing that Spring is in the air, the Sun is now shining, our Mom has been reunited with our beloved father, her parents and sisters and that our dear grandpa Phil has his three girls together at home once again.
