Louis James "Jim" Tuke Sr. was a longtime resident of Anderson Township. Born to Louis & Martha Tuke on May 30, 1930, and delivered unto heaven, on May 30, 2019, at the age of 89 years in his residence, surrounded by his family. Jim was the beloved father of Jim (Jr), Julie (Faust), Jennifer (Custis), Jeff, and Jane (Johns), grandfather of twenty-two grandchildren and the loving husband of Joan (nee: Roush). Jim was preceded in death by his daughter Jody, two brothers, Carl and Robert, sister, Mary Virginia (Cone), and Adam Tuke, his grandson. His children's children include: Jim II & Donna (nee: Brokamp) Tuke; James; Nick, Rachel, Christian, Becca, Candice, and Esther and step granddaughter Dawn Rae Reynolds and her children, Aubrey and Ivan, Mark & Julie (nee: Tuke) Faust; Mark Joseph II, Sarah Ann, Lauren, Julia and Katherine, Jeff and Lisa (nee: Markley) Tuke; Ben and Griffin. Chris & Jennifer (nee: Tuke) Custis; Christopher II, Elizabeth and Jonathan, Jerry II and Jane (nee: Tuke) Johns; Jerry III, Lauren and Suzannah.
Jim enjoyed sharing his passions and stories with his children and grandchildren. He constantly encouraged them to live and experience life to its fullest. Throughout his upbringing the religious of the Catholic Church educated him. Early years included, education from the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur at Summit Country Day, the Jesuits of Campion High School in Wisconsin, the Marianist Brothers at Purcell, and after graduating from Purcell, he was educated by the Jesuits at Xavier University in Cincinnati. During the summers of his youth Jim enjoyed all the exciting activities of Ft. Scott Catholic Summer Camp in Ross, Ohio. Jim's Catholic faith included deep friendships with several religious, Fr. John C. Murphy of Campion High School in Prairie du Chien, WI, Bishop Dominic Ferrara of the Camboni Missionaries, Monseigneur Robert Sherry from St. Gregory/Mount St. Mary Seminary, Sister Imelda Stritch of the Ursaline Sisters of Brown County and Fr. Carl Wollering of St. Jerome Church whom will be the celebrant for Jim's funeral. All of these religious contributed significantly to Jim's formation. At St. Jerome, Jim became an altar boy, usher and cleaned the church for one month out of the year; he called himself "Mr. Cleaning Lady." He will be buried as a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, following in the footsteps of his father and brothers before him. His grandfather Fred Tuke was an honorary member of the Elder Knights of Columbus. Jim's profound respect and admiration of his grandfather Fred Tuke led him into his lifelong career in real estate. After completing his education, Jim joined his grandfather at Fred Tuke & Sons' Realtors, a family business that was started in 1904 by his grandfather Fred, an immigrant from Ankum, Germany. Along with his brothers (Carl and Bob), Jim made Fred Tuke & Sons' Realtors his life's work. Being the last living broker over Fred Tuke & Son he retired the business in 2014 - over a century after its inception, being the oldest real estate brokerage firm in Cincinnati's history.
Jim lived a very active life that was guided by his passions and a desire to live life to its fullest. In his youth he played football, hunted, fished, ice-skated and much more. A true sportsman throughout his adult life as well, Jim played many sports. He was involved in bowling leagues, enjoyed ice skating, snow skiing & sled riding with his children & grandchildren, rode the family horses, enjoyed corn hole, pickle ball, tennis and golf. After his daughter Jody's death, he bought the family sailboat where they participated in competitive sailing. Active in his children's lives, he coached many of his children's sports teams such as soccer & softball. Jim was the Knights of Columbus horseshoe doubles champion, in the state of Ohio, for a total of nine years. Soccer became the family passion as he was one of the founding fathers of youth soccer in Cincinnati and helped to establish many soccer teams and associations such as S.A.Y. Soccer, the Queen City Soccer Club and others. He was on several soccer boards such as the Southeast Soccer Association. Jim became a soccer referee, was a referee assigner as well as conducted referee training clinics. Jim coordinated and was instrumental in the purchase of the Four Seasons Marina Soccer Fields and many other field sights. It was only natural that Jim became an Ohio high school soccer referee where he officiated for 42 years and receiving many accolades from the Ohio High School Soccer Association for his dedication and commitment to soccer. He even built a soccer field in the family's backyard.
Jim, being an avid outdoorsman, fishing & hunting were continuous from his youth. In 73 years, he never once missed Opening Day of Ohio Pheasant Season. Similarly, Jim always looked forward to his monthly poker club "Group 8," meetings, a brotherhood of close friends who met in their high school years and met every month to play poker for over sixty years. They invested their split the pot earnings into real estate investments which afforded them to take annual vacations as a group. Jim Tuke was a zestful, fascinating and engaging man, full of spirit, always friendly and fond of sports and adventure. Jim was very resilient in all areas of his life and throughout any crisis he kept an indomitable spirit. He would want us all to live life to its fullest. Jim will be greatly missed.

In retirement he increased his involvement in sports including; tennis, pickle ball, softball, water skiing, snow skiing, sailing and horseshoes. For 9 years Jim was a Knights of Columbus State of Ohio horseshoe doubles champion. He received recognition from the Ohio High School Soccer Association for over 40 years of high school refereeing. He also coached SAY soccer youth teams. He always looked forward to his monthly poker club meeting, which started over 60 years ago. Jim was an avid fisherman and hunter, and for 75 straight years he never missed an opening day for pheasant hunting.

Mass of Christian Burial at Guardian Angels Church, Mt Washington, on June 11 at 11AM. Friends may visit at the church Tuesday from 9:00 - 10:30 AM. At 10:30 there will be a 4th degree Knights of Columbus Sword Ceremony and an eulogy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jim Tuke Tree Fund, c/o Jeff Tuke, 1259 Collinsdale Ave., Cincinnati, OH. 45230 (Please make checks payable to Jeff Tuke) for trees to be planted around soccer fields and churches in the fall, Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Jerome Church, St. Vincent dePaul, or Knights of Columbus.
