Riegel, Lucy E. (nee Shank) an amazingly kind and generous Lucy Elizabeth Shank Riegel peacefully passed into eternal rest the morning of March 15, 2017, in her home near Mt. Washington, after a long battle with cardiac issues. Lucy was born August 8, 1944, to Claudine (Kaps) Shank and Ebbert Dexter Shank. The fourth of seven children, she was reared in Wyoming, Ohio, and graduated from Wyoming High School in 1962. She earned a degree from the University of Cincinnati's College of Education and Home Economics in 1966. She taught social studies in the Cincinnati Public and the Hamilton Township school districts. In June of 1969, Lucy and Thomas Corvin Riegel celebrated their marriage at the Wyoming Presbyterian Church. Their son, Michael Spencer Riegel, was born in 1973. Several years later, Lucy gained a position with the United States Internal Revenue Service in Covington, Kentucky. Throughout her life, Lucy epitomized loyalty and loving devotion to her family, friends, and charitable organizations. She was a staunch supporter and fan of the UC Bearcats and the Cincinnati Reds. A section of her home is dedicated to her Reds with the considerable memorabilia she accumulated over the years. Her ongoing friendships and support of and participation in alumni reunions and gatherings of friends brought particular joy into her life. Lucy is survived by her devoted and loving husband Tom, their son Michael and daughter in law Christina Riegel and the "lights of her life" grandchildren Spencer and Rachel Riegel whom she doted upon lots of love, hugs, and kisses! She leaves siblings Nancy Shank Arnn of Fredericksburg, Virginia; Margery Shank Schill (Richard) of Hilton Head, South Carolina; Candace Shank of Greenhills, Ohio; the late Richard Spencer Shank, Sue Ann Shank, and Ebbert Dexter Shank. She was also the adored aunt of Ginny Schill Mason, Rick Schill, Ted Arnn, Christa Arnn Socha, and Elizabeth Shank van den Berg. She leaves one great-nephew Emmet Donovan Arnn. To remember and celebrate Lucy's life, family and friends may gather on Friday, March 24, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM with a Memorial Celebration at 2:00 PM at T.P. WHITE & SONS Funeral Home 2050 Beechmont Ave. Mt. Washington with a reception following at her home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Lucy's memory be made to the American Heart Association.
