Lynn Moore

August 25, 1939 — January 29, 2024

Lynn Allen Moore passed away at the age of 84 on January 29, 2024, after a long, difficult battle
with Alzheimer’s. Lynn was born August 25, 1939 to Betty and Joseph Moore. Lynn grew up on
the east side of Cincinnati where he developed a love of all sports at an early age. Lynn
attended Withrow High School, playing basketball, baseball and running cross country. He
received a baseball scholarship to the University of Cincinnati, and has remained a loyal
Bearcat for the rest of his life. He served a term as the president of the “C” Club at UC. Lynn
was drafted by the Milwaukee Braves out of college and played minor league ball for four years.

Upon returning to Cincinnati with his wife and first born son, David, he began a business career
but looked for a sport to fill the baseball void. He quickly turned to softball, playing with a bunch
of guys that became lifelong friends. The team made it to the finals in the Wide World of Sports
tournament. Looking for another challenge, he picked up golf, which became an enduring
passion. He started playing with friends at various local courses, eventually becoming a
member at Coldstream Country Club. Some of the highlights of his golf success include: four
time club champion at Coldstream; a fixture at the top of the leaderboard in the Cincinnati
Metropolitan Amatuer tournament; and played in the US Senior Open soon after he turned 50
(he was star struck to have his locker next to Jack Nicklaus’). Lynn also served terms as the
president of Coldstream and the president of the Tri-State Golf Association. While Lynn
achieved significant success in local, competitive golf, he cherished the friendships more than
the accolades.

Lynn eventually returned to baseball, coaching his sons, David and Jeff, in knothole baseball,
and coached the varsity baseball team at Anderson High School from 1983-1988. He also
served as a scout for the Montreal Expos baseball club. He also enjoyed attending the sporting
events of his children and grandchildren.

While Lynn was passionate about sports, his deepest passion was his family. He was married to
Jenny for 62 years. They enjoyed traveling and socializing with friends (going to sporting events,
UC bowl games and conference tournaments) and spending time with their children and
grandchildren.

Lynn was the father of David, Molly (Keith) and Jeff. He was the proud grandfather to Joe,
Jordan (Chris), Halle (Jack), Carly, Alex and Max. He loved regaling his grandchildren with
stories of his athletic escapades.

He is also survived by his brother, John, and was preceded in death by his sister, Christine, and
brother, Tim (Susie). He is also survived by numerous nieces, in-laws and cousins who he
dearly loved.

His brother, Tim, often referred to him as “the standard by which all others are measured.” The
Standard will be truly missed.
