Jordan, Marcus Percy, Age 84 of Clifton, died February 19, 2016. He was born on August 20, 1931 in Ellisville, MS to the late Hubert S.D. and Middie Myers Jordan. Preceded in death by his only brother, Hubert S.D. Jordan, Jr.
Marcus grew up in Ellisville attending both Ellisville Elementary and High School. Upon his graduation he attended Jones Jr. College and then was awarded a music scholarship to the University of Southern Mississippi where he received a master's degree. Marcus took a brief break from his education to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He achieved the rank of T/Sgt. and was an attaché to a Colonel.
After his discharge from the Army he later attended the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. He became a personal companion and student to Madame Karin Dayas, a concert pianist and her husband, August Sondlin, a violinist with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. He traveled with them while they toured and performed. After her death, Marcus was so inspired by Madame that he established a scholarship in her name. His passion for music did not cease and he was a very talented concert pianist in his own right. He later served as an organist and choir director for various churches in the Cincinnati area.
Marcus then had a second calling to further his education at the University of Cincinnati and pursue his master's in special education. He taught at several Cincinnati Public Schools throughout his career beginning with Peaslee in 1969, Rothenburg in 1975, Cincinnati Psychiatric Center in 1978, and Roberts Paideia Academy in 1988. He retired from teaching in 1991 but still maintained a lasting friendship with a group where he was a founding member called "The Lunch Bunch". This special group consisted of Pam Lamkin, Mary and Alan Kalos, Judy and Michael O'Rourke, and Joyce and Tom Shaffer.
Besides his parents and brother, Marcus was fortunate to have had other special family in his life. His cousin, Max Jordan who was 18 years older than Marcus was a father figure to him. Both Max who is 103 and his wife, Archa are his oldest living relatives. He was also very close to his cousin, Margaret Ann Fortenberry who was one year younger.. They grew up together and both attended the University of Southern Mississippi.
