Mary Audrey Dwyer

July 16, 1939 — February 21, 2025

Mary Audrey Dwyer (nee Dillon), 85, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 21, 2025. A beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Audrey will always be remembered for her kindness, her sense of humor and her innate ability to be a compassionate listener.

Born July 16, 1939, in Cincinnati, Audrey grew up the only child of George C. and Margaret Dillon. She graduated from Mount Notre Dame High School and Marquette University. After graduation, Audrey married her high school sweetheart, Bob. She spent many years as a busy mom raising six children, while working with Bob, as bookkeeper at Dwyer Industries.

In the 1990’s, Audrey returned to school to earn her master’s degree in theology from the Athenaeum of Ohio. From there she began her dream job as a hospice chaplain. She was passionate about her career, where for decades she prayed with and comforted many patients and their families.

Audrey led a very spiritual and faith-filled life. She attended daily mass for many years and was an active participant in her parish, St. Anthony Church, serving on the Parish Council and as an Extraordinary Minister.

She enjoyed playing tennis, reading and walking, especially at the Cincinnati Nature Center. In her later years, she enjoyed walking in her neighborhood, visiting with her neighbors and greeting all the neighborhood dogs with biscuits.

Audrey was a very kind, gentle soul. She enjoyed spending time with friends, neighbors and her family, her greatest joy, especially her fourteen grandchildren, all of whom she adored. Gma will be greatly missed.

Audrey is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert, her six children and their families: Kathleen (Steve Nance) Dwyer, Colleen (Chris) Markesbery, Elizabeth (Kurt) Platte, Margaret (Todd Hoffpauir) Dwyer, Sheila (Cary) Stier and Robert (Leigh Ann) Dwyer and her grandchildren: Laura, Theresa, Joe, Shannon, Sean, Sydney, Nick, Gabby, Elena, CJ, Hanna, Elizabeth, Daniel and Delaney.

She is preceded in death by her parents, George C. and Margaret Dillon and her great grandson, Brady Thomas Arlinghaus.

Visitation will be 9:00 am-10:00 am at St. John Fisher Church, 3227 Church Street, Cincinnati, on Friday, February 28, 2025.  Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Audrey’s caretakers at Sem Haven and all the wonderful people at Queen City Hospice who provided care and comfort in her last days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Cincinnati or Queen City Hospice
