Matthew C. Cholmondeley

June 25, 1929 — January 16, 2025

Matthew Chester Cholmondeley, aged 95, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He never awoke from his evening nap, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and remarkable adventures.

Born in June 1929, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Matt was the son of Hollingsworth and Laura. He married in 1955, and he and his beloved wife, Auda, built a life filled with family and shared joys. Matt was predeceased by his parents and Auda but is survived by his sons, Tom Cholmondeley and his wife Larkin, and Greg Cholmondeley and his wife Preethi. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Salitrix Irish, Tarun, Anoushka, and Richard and his wife Taylor. His brother, Tom Cholmondeley, also survives him.

A man of extraordinary drive and curiosity, Matt founded Cholmondeley Industrial Associates, which later became Cemsco, Inc., a Blue Ash based company representing large industrial equipment. His military service during the Korean conflict was spent stateside, stationed at a base in Indianapolis, Indiana. Matt remained rooted in Cincinnati, living most of his life within a few miles of his birthplace and spending his later years in the Mount Washington home of his son Tom and daughter-in-law Larkin.

Matt had a profound love for travel and an unquenchable thirst for learning. He mastered German, forging strong connections with his wife's German relatives and with citizens of the city of Ilmenau, where he pioneered a sister city program with Cincinnati. Later, he embraced Spanish, immersing himself in the culture of Potrero, Costa Rica, where he spent several weeks annually. Even at 95, Matt discussed future trips to Germany and Costa Rica. His hobbies were as diverse as they were adventurous, including rock climbing, caving, bicycling, marathon running, and camping.

Matt will be remembered as a gracious and giving man who embodied responsibility and hard work. His respect for others and deep care for family and community touched countless lives across the globe.

A visitation will be held at T. P. White and Sons Funeral Home, 2050 Beechmont Ave, Cincinnati, OH, on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 12:00 PM, followed by burial at Spring Grove Cemetery at 1:30 PM.

Matt lived a life far longer and fuller than most, embracing every experience and enriching the lives of those who knew him. His engaging wit and gracious spirit will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
