Olga M. Hoditschek (nee Albrecht) age 98 of Union Twp., died May 5, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Anton Hoditschek, devoted mother of Barbara Hoditschek, Mary (Donald) Murphy, and Anton (Marilyn) Hoditschek, cherished grandmother of Heather Murphy Dunbar, caring great-grandmother of Sutton and Ellison Dunbar, loving daughter of the late August and Maria Eckel Albrecht, dear sister of the late Paul, Joseph, Leo, and Bruno Albrecht, and Maria Sommers.
Olga was born in Heilsberg, Eastern Prussia on December 19, 1924. Heilsberg is a small town outside the city of Konigsberg, which was renamed after World War II to Kalininsgrad. Olga's town is now Litzbark Poland Warmian Masurium
.
Olga had a wonderful childhood until the beginning of World War II, when she was forced to go into German youth camp to help with the war effort. As the war escalated and the Russian invasion occurred, she traveled on foot with her mother, sister and 2 brothers. She endured unbearable hardships and witnessed many human tragedies. Never to return to her home, she always missed her younger days and friends who did not survive.
Olga married her husband Anton, a Romanian who could not return to his country and together they, along with their daughter Barbara, made their way to America. Olga learned to speak English by reading Nancy Drew mystery books. She also learned to use lipstick and wear shorts, much to her husbands' strong objections. Her biggest regrets were not learning to drive a car, never going to a formal dance, having a real wedding, and not becoming a seamstress.
Olga's husband passed away when he was forty-three leaving her a widow with 3 children. She had no family or support but managed to send all of us to college and picked up odd jobs to support her family.
Olga had a love of people, flowers, and animals particularly birds and dogs. She never knew a stranger, was a wonderful storyteller and had an intense work ethic. She was honest, and outspoken in her opinions, which were many! She will be missed, but we know there is a red bird or a flower in full sight of her view of the clouds.
