Raymond Louis Shrader passed away at home peacefully on Sunday, November 19th surrounded by his loving family and his wife of 63 years, Bettie Clay (Renaker) of LaGrange, KY.
Though Raymond spent the majority of his life in Cincinnati, he always considered himself a Kentuckian. He was born on December 29th, 1937, in Westport, KY to the late Owen & Catherine (Sherley) Shrader. Some of his fondest childhood memories were living on 18-Mile Island in the Ohio River with his family.
He attended Oldham County High School, Georgetown College and after service in the army attended the University of Kentucky, where he became and forever remained a loyal UK Wildcat fan. Shortly after, he and Bettie married and moved to Cincinnati where he began his 45-year career with General Motors (and subsidiaries) serving in managerial, executive, and even post-retirement alumni leadership roles.
Ray’s proudest contributions, however, were in his service to the Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon and elder at both Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church and Mount Washington Presbyterian Church. He was also honored as a Kentucky Colonel by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and held the designation proudly.
He is survived by his two sisters, Sissy (Charles) Waits and Lucy (Doug) Green; sister-in-law, Stella Renaker, his son, Steven (Linda) Shrader; daughters Sandra (Brad) Baker and Susan (Christopher) Matsko; grandsons, Nathan Shrader, Corey Shrader, Austin (Olivia) Baker, Tyler Baker, Emerson Matsko and Teddy Matsko; granddaughter Madison Baker and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends who will forever remember him for his generosity, smile and affectionate wit.
Visitation to be held Tuesday, November 28th at 1PM followed by a memorial service at 2PM at Mount Washington Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati.
