B. Rebecca "Becky" Suder (nee Sloughfy) was a loving wife, sister, aunt, stepmother, and grandparent. She is preceded in death by all her six siblings: brothers Arthur, Brinton, Lloyd, Donald, sisters Catherine and Ruth; her husband Dr. Garfield “Gar” Suder, stepson David Suder, and stepdaughter Kathy Nickles. She is survived by her son-in-law, George Nickles, and her two grandchildren, Brian and Katie Nickles, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Becky was born May 14, 1930, near Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a small town in the western part of the state. In 1944, with the passing of her father, Becky moved to Washington, D.C., to live with her newlywed sister, Ruth, and Ruth's husband, Robert. In 1947, they moved to Cincinnati and lived in Bond Hill. Becky attended and graduated from Withrow High School. Later in life, she worked in a medical office as a secretary where she met Gar. She married Gar in November of 1965 at Knox Presbyterian Church in Hyde Park.
Becky was well-traveled, having visited several international destinations and co-piloted many trips with Gar in his Piper Cherokee. She always brought back gifts from her travels for her family and the office staff at Gar's practice.
Originally residents of Mt. Lookout, living on Kroger Avenue, Becky and Gar moved out to Eversole Road in Anderson Township in the late 1970s. Becky and Gar became parishioners of Mount Washington Presbyterian Church in 1988 and were active members of the congregation. Becky was a member of the Joy Circle of Presbyterian Women and enjoyed volunteering at the church's annual rummage sale.
Becky was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), a member of the Cincinnati Woman's Club and, along with her sister Ruth, a founding member of a local chapter of the Freedom's Foundation of Valley Forge. She was also a member of the Metropolitan Club here in Cincinnati.
In 1997, Becky and Gar moved to a condominium on Witts Mill Lane, also in Anderson Township. Gar passed away in 2007. In 2013 Becky sold the condo and moved to The Dupree House retirement community in Hyde Park where many of her dear friends were already residing. In the last chapter of her story, Becky was happy to volunteer in The Dupree House library, enjoyed playing Bridge, going to events hosted at The Dupree, and was blessed to frequently socialize and dine with her friends while living there. She will be missed dearly.
