Robert Penman

Penman, Robert William Brown died February 14, 2014 in Cincinnati surrounded by the family he loved. Born in 1928, in Bihar, India, to Scottish parents, he attended George Watson's College for Boys in Edinburgh Scotland, and received his medical degree from the University of Edinburgh in 1954. He was a diplomate in internal medicine and pulmonary diseases in the Royal College of Physicians. Dr. Penman practiced medicine in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland and spent a year on a research fellowship at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1966, Dr. Penman and his family immigrated to the United States sailing on the Queen Mary. He worked as a physician and professor in Pulmonology at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington and then in private practice at Bethesda Hospital in Cincinnati. Dr. Penman was the author of numerous scientific papers and did extensive research into lung disease. He was an esteemed expert on black lung disease. Dr. Penman is survived by his loving and devoted wife of sixty three years, Christina, as well as four children, Diana Dill (Gordon), Fiona Ehrnschwender (Scott), David Penman (Leanne) and Susan Mitchell (Rob). He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was very much loved and admired by his large family. There will be a private funeral service.
