Dr. Rodolfo Q. Bruno, M.D. (Rudy), beloved surgeon and cherished family patriarch, passed away on July 25, 2024 at the age of 85 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
He was born and raised in Asingan, Pangasin, Philippines. He pursued his medical education at Far Eastern University in Manila before traveling to the United States to specialize in surgery. Rudy's career began in Cleveland, Ohio, where he completed his internship in general surgery. There he met and married Penelope Bruno.
He later moved to Cincinnati, where he completed a fellowship in vascular surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital. His dedication to the field led him to join the hospital's teaching staff, where he became a respected mentor and colleague. Over his 35+ year career, Rudy touched the lives of thousands of patients with his precise surgical skills and his kind, but tough manner.
Rudy's influence extended far beyond the operating room. As a devoted family man, he played a pivotal role in bringing three of his siblings to America, fostering the close-knit family dynamic. Every family gathering was a lively celebration involving three generations of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
An avid supporter of local sports and cultural events, Rudy was a past President of the Association of Philippine Physicians of Greater Cincinnati (APPGC) and a lifelong season ticket holder for the Cincinnati Reds, Bengals, ATP tennis tournament, and even the Cincinnati Stingers hockey team. Later, he and his companion, Barb, loved to travel, play tennis and golf. However, his greatest joy came from attending the events of his grandchildren, cheering them on at their various activities and performances - all with perfectly coifed hair and dressed to the nines.
Beloved father of Rod (Jennie) Bruno and Mary (Kyle) Forte. Devoted Lolo of Natalie, Drew, Will and Henry. Dear brother of Cesar (Eva) Bruno, Aurora (Sinfor) Valdez, Venus (the late Don) Orleck and Charito "Baby" (the late Orlan) Reyes. Loving companion of Barb Nieman. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by parents Adriatico and Agripina Bruno and brother Virgilio Bruno.
Rudy's legacy is one of high achievement, joyous gatherings, flirtatious nature and the ability to touch the hearts of those around him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his contributions to medicine, his passionate support of his family, and his vibrant spirit.
A memorial mass to honor Rudy's life and legacy will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at St. John Fisher Church, 3227 Church St, Newtown at 10:30AM.
