Ronald Lyons

January 28, 1932 — January 19, 2019

Ronald W. Lyons, born on January 28, 1932 in Cincinnati, the youngest of seven children, passed away on January 19, 2019, nine days before his 87 th birthday. Ron was a talented football player at Withrow H.S. from 1948-51. He was a superior cadet in the United States Air Force ROTC program at the University of Cincinnati, and graduated in 1955 during the final stages of the Korean War. First he was sent to Marana AFB in AZ for primary pilot training, then to Laredo, TX for jet fighter pilot training. Upon completion, he was assigned to Johnson AFB near Tokyo, Japan where he flew B-29s during the Cold War. When his mother died in the fall of 1957, he returned home to care for his father. During that time, he earned a Masters Degree in Education at U.C., after which he became a high school administrator for 30 years, his last 13 at Milford High School. Continuing his Air Force service in the Reserves, he gave 11 more years and reached the rank of Captain. In 1960, he married his wife Barbara (Bobbie), nee Hagner, and they raised 3 children. They
both enjoyed sports, music, and travel, visiting all 7 continents. He was an outstanding water
skier and taught boatloads of kids to ski. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, his daughters, Jennifer(Mike) Pfeffer, Melissa(Tim) Gottfried, and his son, Dana(Robbin) Lyons, 7 grandchildren Keith(Jess) Pfeffer and Kristina(Joe) DeGregorio, Reed, Regan and Kelly Lyons, and Ben and Tyler Gottfried, and 4 great granddaughters-- Kendall and Hadley Pfeffer, Giuliana and Sofia DeGregorio. Ron was loved and appreciated by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Christ Church Cathedral, 4 th and Sycamore Sts., on February 9 th at 11AM. Guests may gather at 10AM for a brief visit with the family. An inurnment service will be held at Spring Grove Cemetery afterwards for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated by the Alzheimers Association, Hospice of Cincinnati, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
