Rose Kiefer's Eulogy:
As some of you may know, mom and I had to pre-plan mom's funeral. That being said, this eulogy was a joint effort between me and mom.
Rose was born the only child of Ray and Mary Blom. She lived the first few years of her life in Point Pleasant, Ohio on the banks of the Ohio River. So growing up Rose's daughter, I heard all about the river and all the flood stories that mom and grandma had to tell. A few years later, Grandpa Ray built a house in Amelia, Ohio which is where Rose lived until she married.
She attended St. Bernadette Grade School and then attended high school at a boarding school founded by Ursuline Sisters in Brown County, Ohio. While growing up, mom took dance lessons. She was trained in ballet, tap and jazz. She also learned ballroom dancing later in life. Rose was also trained in classical piano. She played Beethoven and Bach and loved telling of the time when, in a spring concert in high school, she played Rachmoninoff flawlessly, not one single mistake. Mom had a very beautiful voice. She sang in the glee club in high school and in college.
She attended Edgecliff College which later became part of Xavier University. While in college, Rose studied Spanish. She was an exchange student for a summer and lived with a family in Colombia, South America where she got to speak Spanish on a regular basis. When she graduated from college, she taught Spanish at Walnut Hills High School.
Also, while in college, she traveled around Europe and enjoyed telling me about all the things she saw and the wonderful experiences she had. She continued to enjoy travel shows later in life and especially liked watching Rich Steve's Europe.
She married my father, Leonard Kiefer, whom she was married to for 44 years. Unfortunately, they didn't make 45 years of marriage due to my father's passing in 2014. After she married, she had me, Angela, her only child. Mom was an excellent mother, always kind and loving. Mom was proud that I became a pharmacist and married her son-in-law, Kurt, who was like the son she never had.
Mom was a devout Catholic and she had many interests. She liked working crossroad puzzles and reading mystery novels and never missed an episode of Angela Lansbury's "Murder She Wrote."
Mom was an excellent cook. The food she made was delicious and she enjoyed watching cooking shows. Mom loved animals. She had dogs and a cat and liked visiting the Cincinnati Zoo. She enjoyed going to the Krohn Conservatory to see the flowers and the Cincinnati Art Museum to see the new exhibits. She also enjoyed riding rides at Kings Island and even rode The Beast with me.
Mom enjoyed life and was generally a happy person. She was a dear, sweet soul that everybody liked and will be deeply missed. She is singing in the angelic choir now.
Mom, I love you and rest in peace.
