Rosemary Schaffer (née Stevens), wife of Robert Herman Schaffer, passed away on May 16, 2024 at McLaren Hospital in East Lansing, Michigan at the age of 87. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Karl (Nantida) and Herman (Kathleen), granddaughters Morgan and Keira of New York, granddog Max of New Jersey, and her brother Richard Stevens of Cincinnati.
She was born on April 8, 1937 to the late Roy and Eva Stevens of Cincinnati Ohio. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings Grace Inlow-Potrafke and Roy Dale Stevens, both of Cincinnati.
Rosemary grew up in the Mt. Adams neighborhood of Cincinnati where she graduated from high school, started work at General Electric, and married. Later, she lived for years in New England. Rosemary loved the traditional way of life and scenery of the region. For two years, she studied at Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut. After having children, Rosemary and the family settled in Okemos, Michigan.
After her sons left for university, she resumed her career as an executive assistant at the State of Michigan. In addition to her professionalism and expert secretarial skills (including shorthand), she loved to organize office events, for which she baked treats.
Rosemary showed her love for others by baking for them or with them. Most recently, she made a spectacular, multi-tiered birthday cake with her granddaughters Morgan and Keira. She frequently sent her sons homemade cookies and brought homemade biscuits and desserts to her neighbors.
Rosemary was above all else devoted to family. She let nothing stand between her and her beloved husband, sons, and grandchildren. She loved to share stories of family and, yet, also believed that some are better left untold.
A funeral service will be held at TP White & Sons Funeral home, 2050 Beechmont Avenue, Mt. Washington on Tuesday May 28th at 11:00 AM. Friends may visit the funeral home at 10:00 AM. She will be buried at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.
