Rudolph Gustav (Gus) Bublitz II, husband of the late JoAnn Lee (nee Champlain), died peacefully on Thur. Sept. 10, 2020 at age 96 at the New England Club in Cincinnati, Ohio. Gus was the beloved father of Sally (Bill) Mann of Lake of the Woods, Virginia and Rudy Bublitz III of Cincinnati, Ohio, a loving grandfather to Rudy IV, Leigh, and Kathryn Bublitz; Ben (Shirlina), Andrew (Sarah) and David (Anna) Mann; loving great-grandfather to Liam, Teddy and Winston Mann. Devoted brother to John (Betty) Bublitz, the late Francis (Roy) Kraenzlein and the late June (James) Stark. Devoted uncle to Renee Colmus, Donald, Frederick (Cheryl) and Philip Champlain; Rebecca (Steve) Howard, John (Kenda) and Jeremy (Brian) Bublitz; Bonnie (Brian) Zimmerman; James (Joan) Stark; Kristy (Richard) Brown and the late Karl Kraenzlein. Gus was born March 31, 1924 in Bay City, Michigan. He served in the 41st Infantry (Fighting Jungleers-Sunrise) Division in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Gus began the war in Papua New Guinea, served in the Philippines and was part of the peaceful invasion of Japan. For most of his life Gus worked for the Kroger Company, beginning as a bag boy and ending his career as Vice President of Advertising. After he retired Gus worked with Catalina Marketing and developed the coupons that are now dispensed with your grocery receipt. Gus and JoAnn were active volunteers delivering Meals-on-Wheels, and Gus loved working with Crayons to Computers collecting and distributing free school supplies to teachers. Gus was an avid hunter and golfer. He was a member of Coldstream Country Club. Gus was a member of Anderson Hills United Methodist Church. He was a great friend, husband, father and grandfather. A private service will be held at a later date at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Bay City, Michigan where Gus and JoAnn will be interred together. Services provided by T.P. WHITE & SONS Funeral Home.
