Samira Awadalla, age 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 4, 2020 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Sabry who passed in 2009. She was a loving mother to Dr. Eleanore Awadalla, Dr Sherif (Susan) Awadalla and Dr Sylvia Awadalla. Proud grandmother of Ryan, Allie, Tom, Michael, Patrick, Steven and Sandra. Great grandmother to Sam, Andrew and Sofia. Further survived by Nephew Sam (Louise) Ghobrial.
Samira earned a degree in History, English and Geography at the Asuit University in Egypt. Seeking a brighter future, the family emigrated to the United States in 1965 and settled in the Akron area. She immediately took on the mammoth task of transitioning her 3 children from Arabic to English while they attended elementary school. While Sabry completed medical certification examinations, she attended to the family and household needs. For many years, she taught various subjects as a substitute teacher. She said many times that her real job was raising 3 children.
She had many interests that kept her busy including singing, gourmet cooking and reading. She was a devout Christian and spent many hours reading the bible and in prayer. She also enjoyed travelling with her husband in the US and internationally. Her happiest times were when she was surrounded by her loving family.
A private family service will be held at T.P. White & Sons Funeral Home on Saturday, June 13, 2020. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Food Bank of your choice or Hands across the Nile.
