Samuel Few

December 12, 1929 — March 5, 2024

Samuel George Few, 94, of New Richmond, passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 5th, 2024. Sam was born to parents Harry and Ruth on December 12th, 1929, in New Richmond. As a boy, he loved to hunt and fish, but truly excelled on the mound with a baseball in his left hand. The southpaws professional career was cut short due to an arm injury, but Sam remained an avid Reds for life. After baseball he opted to enlist in the military, where he would serve his country as a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean War. It was while stationed in Tampa, Florida that Sam found his true purpose in life. On March 22nd, 1952, he married the love of his life, Bonnie Jane Carnes, also from New Richmond. They welcomed two sons, first Harry and then Sam K., who were both born in Tampa within a couple years of their marriage. In 1954, Sam returned the family to New Richmond where he would live the rest of his life.

Sam spent his entire career working for Proctor & Gamble. He didn't live his life to work. He worked so he could live and provide for his family. Having lived through the great depression, Sam understood the value of a dollar, so he lived simply and wasted nothing. This allowed him to retire from P&G in his mid-50s and spend the next 40 years doing what he really loved: spending time with his family, golfing, and fishing. He never met a fish he couldn't catch, and so he spent decades of retirement winters surf fishing on the beaches of Panama City. Sam's golf game was impeccable. He was a scratch golfer in his prime, and he frequently shot under his age well into his 70s. Sam rarely lost an argument, and he wasn't afraid to let you know where he stood on any given issue. He seldom lost at cards either, be it gin or euchre or anything else. If you were up against him in any competition, you were in trouble. But in the end, he always had a way of bringing a smile out of his opponents with his wit and charm. Everything Sam loved to do, he did it well. And no matter what it was, his wife Bonnie was never too far from his side. His family and friends will remember him well for his strong opinions, kind heart, and infectious smile.

Sam is survived by his wife of nearly 72 years, Bonnie; his son, Sam K.; his grandchildren, Brett, Lauren, and Josh; and his two great-grandchildren, William and Samuel. Sam was predeceased by his parents, Harry E. and Ruth Few; his sister, Jerry White; and his son, Harry F.
