Scott Behrens

June 16, 1950 — October 13, 2017

Behrens, Scott A. passed away October 13, 2017 after battling colon cancer for 10 months.

“Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”

---Dylan Thomas

Scott raged against the dying of the light and lived his last months the way he lived his entire life with vigor, with passion, with determination, with integrity.

He shared his life with his wife Tamara--- "the best thing that ever happened to me."
He was deeply proud of his daughters, both brilliant and sweet. They share his passion for medicine and science; they are studying astrophysics and veterinary medicine at Ohio State. Conversations in their household were unintelligible to outsiders!

Scott taught a generation to water ski and snow ski. With quiet patience and relentless playfulness, he would simply not let you stop until you conquered it. He had every tube, ski and float that someone might like to play on and every cocktail someone might like to drink. He loved when you asked to do "dawn patrol," early mornings when the water was still like glass. He loved long nights in the screened porch on Norris Lake. His happiest place on earth was at the wheel of his boat.

Scott loved travel with friends for life Susan Wilkinson and Dave Axt---
wine trips and ski trips and spontaneous weekend flights to Chicago and Portland and Boston. They were with him when he learned to bet on horses at Belterra during his illness and to experience 99% of the summers total solar eclipse from his Norris Lake home.

While Scott could be happy go lucky at play, he was nothing but serious when it came to his work, his daughters education, his houses and his boat. He believed in quality and discipline and meticulous attention to detail in every aspect of his life.

Scott was a cardiologist for 27 years. He attended to patients at Mercy Hospital Anderson, where he served as chief of staff in 2010 and 2011, and most recently at The Christ Hospital Outpatient Center in Anderson Township. He changed the lives of hundreds of patients and their families. He earned his undergraduate, graduate and medical degrees from the University of Cincinnati.

Scott is survived by his wife Tamara; his daughters, Kristen and Erica; lifelong friends Susan Wilkinson and Dave Axt; and his cousin Jo Whetstone. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Beatrice Behrens, and his cousin Bill Whetstone.

Celebration of Scott's life will be at Ivy Hills Country Club, 7711 Ivy Hills Blvd., (Newtown) Cincinnati, 45244 on Sun. Oct. 29, from 1-4 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hospice of Cincinnati, which has twice been a blessing to Tamaras family.
