Thomas Jeffrey Davis was born on November 1, 1949, in Cincinnati, Ohio and passed away on July 30th, 2024 at the age of 74 in Beaufort, South Carolina. He was the cherished, first-born son of Thomas Jesse Davis and Henrietta Gertrude Davis, both of whom preceded him in death.
Tom was a graduate of McNicholas High School and after high school, served his country by joining the United States Coast Guard. He humorously referred to himself as a member of the Coast Guard's special forces, "the Penguins," and joked that their slogan was "you always have to go out but you don't have to come back." He was the consummate jokester.
Following his military service, Tom embarked on a few careers and graduated from the University of Cincinnati. He eventually settled on a career with the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier- a profession he pursued with great pride and the same held by his father. He retired to the beaches of South Carolina, where he found joy in fishing and crabbing. He loved the tranquility of coastal life and sending photos of his Lowcountry lifestyle to family and friends.
Tom loved making people laugh. His unfiltered sense of humor was a hallmark of his interactions with family and friends and a trait that he passed down to his sons. He could make friends with anyone and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Those who knew Tom would universally characterize him as funny, positive, extremely easy to get along with, and forever young. He loved the simple things in life like fishing and camping, and was a lifelong Cincinnati sports enthusiast. He was always up to talk about how the Reds, Bengals, and Bearcats were doing and would follow Red's game box scores like he was a scout.
Tom was a devoted father to Eric (Chris), Jonathan, and Benjamin (Tori). He was a loving "Papaw" to his granddaughter Emma, with whom he shared a special bond. They had weekly video calls to talk about fishing, sports, and how things were going in her life and he loved bragging about her to his family and friends.
He was a beloved brother to Vicki (Craig), Bruce (Yvonne), Greg (Donna), Dave (Maggie), and Rob (Sara). He was preceded in death by his brother, Mark.
