Thomas H. Caldwell, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin
and friend, died on July 8, 2023. He was born on August 15, 1945, in
Lawrenceburg, Indiana, the son of James W. Caldwell, Sr. and Georgia Ann (Harry)
Caldwell. He cherished his idyllic small town childhood. He was a multi-sport
athlete at Lawrenceburg High School and continued his basketball career at the
University of Notre Dame. It was there that he met Susan Shouvlin, a Saint Marys
College lass, and they were married in 1968. They have three sons, William
(Patricia), David (Cheryl) and Ryan (Ashley) and nine grandchildren: Nathan, Alex,
Jacob, Brooke, Lillian, Paige, William, Jackson and Andrew. He is also survived by
his brother Robert (Pete) Caldwell of Atlanta and is a beloved uncle of his many
nieces and nephews.
After graduation Tom entered the Army and was stationed at Fort Leavenworth,
Kansas, serving as the post finance officer. He was also a key player of the
Lieutenants, an intramural basketball team that won the North American
Intramural Army Tournament in 1969. After his stellar performance in the
tournament he was offered a spot on the All-Army team that toured the world.
Sue and Tom settled in Cincinnati in 1970 where Tom spent 30 years with US Bank
and ten years with the Ohio Department of Taxation.
One of Tom's favorite activities was coaching youth basketball at Immaculate
Heart of Mary School. He will be fondly remembered by the hundreds of players
whose lives he touched during his 30 years of coaching. He was an enthusiastic
fan of Notre Dame football and basketball and Xavier University basketball. He
was also a die-hard Reds fan and loved discussing the team with his older
grandsons. He was a darn good bridge player and liked to play as often as
possible.

T.P. White & Sons Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday,
