He is survived by his sister Bernice McCutcheon. He was the devoted father to Gary (Kathy) Pieples, Gregg (Diane) Pieples, Diana Pieples, Jill (Skip) Stein, and Lori (Bryan Kohls) Morrison. Adoring grandfather to Grant, Devin, Jackson, Kody, Luca, Kendall, Satchel, McKenzie, Leo, Karson, Olivia, Nylah, Marissa, and Brayden.
Tom was born in Vandergrift PA and was a 1955 graduate of Vandergrift High School. As a youth, he made money selling dry ice to contribute to the family coffers. He left home at 17 to join the Air Force, where he served 4 years as an Air Traffic Control Tower Operator. After discharge, he landed in Cincinnati where he met his lovely bride at the Megard's Bowling Alley in Walnut Hills.
Tom's career was a lifelong salesperson, starting his career at McCalpin's, then as a successful toy salesman at Elmex Corp until they closed in the 80's. He ended his career as an Independent sales rep for various party suppliers, often traveling throughout the tri-state area.
Tom was an avid baseball fan as a youth and is one of the reasons he landed in Cincinnati, often watching the Reds play his hometown Pirates on youth ticket days. Tom had a vast knowledge of baseball trivia and his childhood dream was to be a sports announcer for baseball. He would often call into the local Cincinnati Radio station to try and stump the local sports show hosts on unique baseball trivia. Tom and Charlotte were members of Immaculate Heart of Mary parish for over 50 years and were huge contributors to the annual festival, running the Italian Sausage Booth for over a decade. Tom continued his love of sports by coaching his kids in baseball, basketball, softball and soccer. He became a huge Bengals fan over the years and would not miss a game on TV.
Tom loved to entertain and was such a gracious host, known for his open household and huge meals. Tom was a proud grandfather who he loved watching his grandkids playing, whether in his backyard on the trampoline or at their sports games.
Tom spent time chatting with his friends and extended family on a zoom call this week. He passed shortly after spending a lovely Christmas Eve with his family.
