Virginia Ruth Marcagi passed away peacefully at Anthology/Ashton of Anderson on July 19, 2024 at 96 years of age. She was the loving daughter of Robert and Maud McGee, and esteemed wife of Lawrence Timothy Marcagi (1930-2019). Virginia was born in Tennessee in 1927, where her father was working as a civil engineer. When she was only six, her father died as a result of lung damage sustained in the First World War, and she and her mother returned to St. Louis to live with her grandmother. Post depression times were difficult for them, and the kindness of neighbors often kept them from hunger, an appreciation that Virginia never forgot. Virginia and her mother were extraordinarily close, and she often said she admired her mother immensely. They often finished each other's sentences and enjoyed sewing and laughing together. Virginia graduated at the top of her high school class at age 16, and worked her way through Washington University in St. Louis, majoring in Economics, graduating in 1949. After college, she became a research assistant in the Economics department at Washington U, and met an undergrad, 3 years her junior, who asked her on a date. Larry and Virginia fell in love, and after a short engagement, were married in 1953. Larry became a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army, stationed first in El Paso Texas, then Stuttgart, Germany, enabling them to begin their passion for travel. During their years in Germany, they were able to travel extensively, and welcomed their first child while there. Their son Tim, was born three years later. Larry's lifelong career with Massachusetts Mutual took them to 4 cities before moving to Cincinnati, Ohio where they raised their family. Virginia loved being a corporate wife, supporting Larry, and immersed herself into motherhood, participating in PTA and church youth activities. Long time members of Mt. Washington Presbyterian Church, Virginia was a Deaconess and youth group leader for many years. Virginia had artistic talent, and became an art student in Oil painting, also becoming active in the Cincinnati Bonsai Society. At one time, caring for over 20 award winning bonsai plants. She had a passion for gardening, and their backyard flower garden was often admired. After Larry's retirement, they resumed traveling and spent 28 winters in Marco Island, Florida in Hideaway Beach where they had many beloved friends.

Virginia's pride and joy were her precious children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who she loved with all of her heart. They brought her much joy in the later years of her life and all will remember "Nan" with fondness and affection. Even the youngest will remember often enjoying chocolate ice cream with Nan.. always her favorite. She knew that she was greatly blessed and in turn, was a blessing to many who knew her.

The family would like to thank Anthology/Ashton staff who were outstanding in their tender care, and Harmony Cares Hospice for compassionate care in her last year of life.
