William "Bill" Goetz entered into eternal rest on June 14, 2023. He was born on April 1, 1952, to Emma (nee Schnitzler) Goetz Chance and Fred Goetz in Cincinnati. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and stepfather, James Chance and nephews, Scott Van Leuven and Michael Bennett. He is survived by his wife, Christina (Chris) (nee Everman) Goetz, brother, Greg (Elaine) Goetz, nephews Kyle (Alison) Goetz and Todd Van Leuven, and nieces Karen (Mike Asnis) Everman, Julie (Steve) Pender and Melissa Bennett.
Bill graduated from Woodward High School and Cincinnati Technical College (now Cincinnati State) with a degree in electro-mechanical engineering. He then had 2 years of apprenticeship training before joining IBEW Local 212 and becoming a licensed commercial electrician. In 1983 he and his wife established Detect-All Security, a security and fire alarm business. He retired in 2021 when the business was sold.
Bill was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in 1998 and became an avid supporter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) through his fund raising and participation in Bike MS. He has ridden in the event since 1999, with the exception of two years when he was unable to ride.
Bill attended St. Matthews United Church of Christ in Carthage, OH growing up. He joined Silverwood Presbyterian Church in 1970 and in 1985 became a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church (recently closed) , where he served as an Elder of Building & Grounds, sang in the Men's Ensemble, visited residents at Southeast Ecumenical Ministry (SEM) Haven, participated in Men's Prayer Breakfast and facilitated a weekly Bible study for many years.
Bill's stubbornness and sense of ethics would not allow him to give in to any limitations that physical conditions imposed on him. He was a fighter, and he refused to stop going. His post-retirement activities were to putter around in his wood workshop and his flower beds.
Visitation will be held Sat. July 8th at Madeira/Silverwood Presbyterian Church, 8000 Miami Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45243 from 9:30 to 10:45 AM. A memorial service will be held at the Church at 11:00 AM.
