William "Bill" J. Scanlon, age 76 of Anderson Twp., passed away January 28, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Linda M. Scanlon (nee Bankemper), devoted father of Mike (Leslie) Scanlon, Kevin Scanlon, and Colleen (JP) Pfister, loving grandfather of Ruby and Felix Pfister, and caring brother of Gary (Linda) Scanlon. He was preceded in death by his parents, William A. and Catherine Dunham Scanlon and his brother, James Scanlon.
Born and raised in Cincinnati, Bill graduated from Xavier University in 1969. Upon graduating, he embarked on his career in accounting and finance. He started as a CPA with Peat Marwick & Mitchell (what is now known as KPMG) where he enjoyed a 23 year career, achieving Partner while also serving as a board member on various non-profit organizations, schools, and churches. After retiring in 1992, Bill went on to his second career as the CFO for the Cincinnati Bengals. This position and this organization is where he found his true joy in which would become the pinnacle of his career.
Bill was a man of faith. Taking queues from his parents, he wanted to make sure his children had that same faith instilled as part of their lives. Outside of work, Bill was an avid golfer. Every Saturday youd find him playing a round of golf at Coldstream Country Club, where he did serve as president. This is where he found some of his most dear and lasting friendships. In retirement, nothing made Bill happier than spending time with his family in the backyard by the pool: the laughing and splashing by his children, grandchildren, and his grand-doggies. A perfect night would include grilling out burgers and hot dogs with Jimmy Buffet on the speakers.
A true family man, Bill was always a part of his childrens lives attending and supporting them through countless nights and weekends of practices and games. He was a great role model, led by example, instilled strong values and faith, and provided constant support throughout their lives. Bills grandchildren held a special place in his heart. Felix and Ruby just walking into a room would make Poppy smile bigger and wider than anything else in the world.
The story of Bill would not be complete without a specific mention of his wife Linda. Married for 50 years and true soulmates, Bill and Linda loved their adventures around the world as well as the family vacations to Hilton Head, Florida... Bill was a joy: a humorous, caring, and loving friend, father, grandfather and husband. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends that he has made over his 76 years.
