William Ogden

June 10, 1927 — September 6, 2015

Ogden III, William Allen, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, September 6, 2015 at the age of 88, at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. He was born in Ft. Lauderdale on June 10, 1927, to proud parents William A. Ogden II and George Anna (nee: Erkins). Described as charming, intelligent and an old world perfect gentleman, he had a great love of sports, especially football, tennis and skiing, a passion that he generously shared with his family and friends. Also a lover of classical music he enjoyed attending the symphony orchestra and supported WGUC the classical public radio station. Many are the times he enjoyed gathering with his family and friends over good food. At the Gin Row apartments he began an annual Derby Day party, eventually co-hosted with his good friend D.I., it now spans well over 50 years. During World War II he proudly served in the United States Army. Graduating with a law degree from the University of Cincinnati, he practiced law in Cincinnati for many years before joining the legal department of the US Department of Commerce, rising to serve as an Administrative Judge. A student of the Civil War, he felt honored to preside over a case involving a Civil War ironclad, the USS Monitor. Returning to Cincinnati, he concluded his law career with the office of the Attorney General of the State of Ohio. He was a dedicated member of the Society of the Colonial Wars. He will be deeply missed. He leaves behind his fourteen month old great grandson Thomas Carl Ogden, his wife Marja-Liisa Ogden of Bend, OR; his companion and longtime friend Kayla Springer of Cincinnati, OH; his sons, William A (Roseann) Ogden IV of Racine, WI; Robert Nielen Ogden of Cincinnati, OH; his daughter Christine Erkins Ogden of Cincinnati, OH; his stepson Erik Wadenstierna of Bend, OR; grandchildren, Matthew (Andrea) Ogden of South Milwaukee, WI, Sarah (Jered) Piencikowski of Milwaukee, WI; Alexandra Sasha (David) Parks of Cincinnati, OH; Caroline Carly (Evan Leon) Ogden of Cincinnati, OH; his brother in law James Kehler of Annapolis, MD; step grandchildren Sydney and Sailor of Bend, OR; his nieces Katherine and Eloise, his childrens brother Lawrence Schlanser; as well as other relatives and many dear friends. He joins his parents and his sister, Joan Ogden Kehler, who preceded him in death. Visitation at St. Boniface Catholic Church (1750 Chase Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45223) at 9:30am on September 19, 2015, followed at 10:30 by a mass of Christian burial, presided by Rev. Joseph Robinson. Interment, with Military Honors, will proceed to Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, OH. Memorials to the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra or WGUC Public Radio.
