McConnell, William Gayle passed away May 2, 2013. He was born September 11, 1922 on a farm in Franklin County, KY, the youngest of four children. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 69 years, Ann Gateley McConnell whom he met while they were both students at Eastern Kentucky University. He is also survived by daughters Kimberly (Robert) Armstrong of Dublin, OH and Patricia (Julio) Araya of Cincinnati and grandchidren Scott (Emily) Armstrong, Amy (Will) Tuten and Ashley Armstrong. Bill served in WW II as an Army pilot in the Philippines and in the Korean War as a flight instructor at Ft.Sill, Oklahoma. His entire working career was spent at Blue Cross, Blue Shield of Cincinnati, retiring as Vice President of External Affairs. He worked on state and natiional committees dealing with health care cost containment and lobbied in Columbus and Washington, D.C. As a resident of Anderson Township for over fifty years, Bill served on the Forest Hills, the Hamilton County, and the Hamilton County Joint Vocationalo School Borards. He was a long time member and past president of the Anderson Hills Kiwanis Club and a member of Cincinnati Rotary Club. He enjoyed the out-of-doors, gardening, fishing, traveling and spending time with family and friends. He lived by the motto\"If it is to be, it's up to me\" based on a poem which his mother gave him when he left for college at age 16 and which he has carred in his wallet ever since. The family wishes to thank his personal care givers/companions Judy, Sheila, Shirley and Judy, the nurses, aides, doctors, staff of Forest Hills Care Center, Anderson Mercy Hospital and the New England Club. Funeral Service will be Monday May 6, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, 800 Ervin Terrace, Dayton, KY, Rev. Holly Robertson Taylor officiating. Visitation at 10 A.M. and services at 11 A.M. The family will have a memorial service at the New England Club at a later date.
